The article pretty much spells it out - OPEC controls the price of oil globally through their massive hand in the supply side of the industry. Even if you get your wish and have O&G completely deregulate here in Canada, the reality is that they aren't going to make a dent in global oil prices regardless of output. If we produce a ton of oil, OPEC simply shuts their taps further until the prices equalize to a point that benefits the members of the cartel.

Other than a reduction in taxes on gasoline at the pump, Canada has very little effective means of changing the cost of oil globally.

Unless you're suggesting we turn into Venezuela #2 and we turn all oil companies and wells into government property, build a crap ton of refining capacity on the tax payer's penny and sell the resulting oil products at cost / at a loss. But frankly, that outcome is even worse as now we'd have 50 cents/L gas, but all our other taxes would go through the roof.

Seconded, I'd want to see that too.

Good point. It's almost as if turning a corner is a foreign concept in most of North America ;-). Jokes aside, it's frankly baffeling that only Quebec had some sense to look at this and go "Hold up, this makes no sense".

Funny that. I moved to Canada too. While I live remote enough to not see many traffic lights on the regular, I do agree with you that they're horribly timed in most cities. And while we're on stuff that makes no damn sense over here: right on red is the stupidest thing anyone ever came up with in terms of traffic laws. It alone is responsible for (iirc) 30% of fatal accidents in North America. Whoever thought it'd be a good idea to have pedestrians cross at the same time as allowing cars to take a corner into them is an absolute madman. It's almost as if they want to encourage pedestrian/cyclist crashes with motorvehicles. I mean, left on red (BC and some other places) for as stupid as it sounds even makes (a very little bit) more sense than right on red. At least you're encouraging crashes between motorvehicles with that one instead of promoting running over squishy human bodies with a metal death box.

My experience driving through Europe from Sweden has always been that the closer you get to the Netherlands the better the roads get. Middle Sweden is usually single lane highways with overtaking every xx km, southern Sweden has multi-lane highways, when you hit Denmark you get even wider highways and some truly spectacular bridges, then you hit Germany and your number of lanes increases again as does the speed limit, and then when you get to the Neterlands the roads are just as wide as the German ones but they look like they were built less than a week ago. It would be truly great to drive if the speed limits weren't such a massive step back from just coming out of Germany, or consistent to begin with. I never really knew what speed you were supposed to go because it feels like the Dutch arbitrarily change the speed limit every 10km. But yeah, road quality is absolutely insane.

I wholly agree with the author of this article, but implementing something like this will meet a lot of resistance. Let's not forget that cigarettes are a relatively new phenomenon, whereas alcohol is something we've consumed as a species since prehistoric times. There are a lot of cultural, social, and historical ties to the use of alcohol that people won't let go easily and will make any attempt to reduce alcohol consumption an uphill battle.

Ah okay, that makes sense. I'll keep checking in on the project then until that's ready. I don't want to use my system's default browser due to corporate filtering, so whenever this feature is implemented I'm ditching Sync :-)

Hmmm, the link on that GitHub issue seems to be going nowhere (at least, it doesn't load for me). Any instructions on how I can set the default browser behaviour?

Exactly. All the memes and stickers about letting the CEL stay on are funny, but if you don't know what code is triggering the light, you are gambling with your car, or even your safety. Seriously people, get a CEL checked out, and then decide if you feel it's worth fixing. Most auto parts stores, dealers, etc. will happily do it for you, often at no cost, but at least be an informed consumer instead of just hoping it will be okay.

What a surprise. Said no-one.

Seriously through, this is the result of Putin's lack of backbone in declaring this an actual war, which would both allow him to recruit conscripts and reservists, and cause quite a bit of international and domestic push back. The only (currently preferred) alternative appears to be to just roll the dice on giving convicted killers weapons and hoping for the best.

This entire operation has made a joke of the Russian military.

Thanks for responding to me, yes that is exactly what I'm looking for. It's this supported on Android too?

Any chance you'll include the option to select which browser to use as the default rendered? Sync let's me choose that currently, and it's one of my main reasons for using that over Voyager, because I much prefer the Voyager UI (and ad-free experience).
