Ah, I remember that. Almost feels like the cocky bastards are mocking us at this point.

Literally no such thing. The Holodomor is a fiction created by Nazi propagandists to paint the failures of Soviet agricultural policy in dealing with a famine as a deliberate attempt to exterminate Ukranians.

Important to note, this was merely the latest in a long series of famines which had historically plagued this part of eastern Europe. It was also the last.

Edit: the other source I was looking for

https://archives.cjr.org/behind_the_news/the_myth_of_tiananmen.php

The thing to get is that there was no massacre on the square, and in fact there's no verifiable evidence that anybody died there at all that day. Many people did die elsewhere, in street clashes with soldiers, after demonstrators killed and burned a few of them.

I would like to note also that bringing up events like Tiananmen Square, especially heavily propagandized and warped versions of them, without an understanding of the complex political context which led up to them, is not a gotcha, it's just ignorant. Not saying you're doing that or that you would do that, but it's something others do frequently when they invoke it round here.

Shoutout to hbomberguy for exposing us youngins to the absolute gem of that gormless shill flopping about like a fish on the dock after being dared to drink weed-killer

I got on the phone with them this morning, they're sending me a new one. They did mention that ASUS mobos are a bit tetchy with AIOs, so if this one gives me similar problems, that'll tell me it's a compatibility issue. At which point I'll just write the whole thing off and get the most effective air cooler I can find lol

[–] YuccaMan@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I don't, no, but I'm wishing I did about now. Anyhow, I'm almost certain the issue is with the cooler, not the board. I tested the CPU fan and AIO headers with one of my case fans, and both of them worked just fine. Plus again, the cooler was actually working until I reset the BIOS. I don't know how simply pressing the CMOS reset button could've fried the cooler though.

[–] YuccaMan@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

I'm a fair hand at it myself, but everybody needs help sooner or later. Granted, though, I probably need it somewhat more often than most lol

I'm fairly certain it isn't the motherboard. The cooler was working earlier today. It only crapped out after I reset the BIOS, which again is exactly what happened the first time it was giving me problems. When I sent it in they replaced the VRM fan and that appeared to solve the problem, until I hit the CMOS reset switch. What if any connection there is there, I couldn't say.

My BIOS is a year out of date, so I think I'll try updating it before I make another warranty claim, but I have a feeling I'm just gonna have to ask Arctic to replace it. I'm dreading that, because they took forever the first time, and all this new hardware has been sitting here unused for long enough already.

It's the last thing I haven't tried. BIOS is a year out of date, so I suppose I'd better give that a shot before giving Arctic a piece of my mind lol

My poor girlfriend, I have no idea how she puts up with my endless micro-rants about how x thing we observed while out and about is evidence of the contradictions of capitalism and the ills attendant therein

I used to live up in those mountains, and unfortunately this didn't come as any surprise to me. The San Bernardino Mountains are full of armed reactionary maniacs, and it truly is a wonder that this sort of thing doesn't happen more often.

[–] YuccaMan@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago

Oh, I believe it, it didn't do me any favors either. Played hell with my ADHD and depression, drove me to drink even more than I already was, and it certainly didn't do any good for my back. Granted, it taught me a few useful skills, but it definitely wasn't worth it on the whole. Anybody who thinks this shit builds character has either never worked a truly soul crushing job before, is thoroughly cucked, or is in total denial as a coping mechanism. I worked with one guy there who fit that last one to a T.

It allowed me to settle my dad's affairs and not work for a while, which is about the best outcome I could've hoped for. I'm down to like $11.5K right now, and I really should be looking for another job, but two and a half straight years of busting your back for peanuts in a warehouse will tend to make you reluctant to reenter the job market.
