When I read that news I literally laughed.

It makes an average of $5000/day while the deficit increases by $55000/second

No, on aur there's duckstation which is the old GPL3 version (stuck to one year ago) and duckstation-git which downloads that git with latest license and compiles on the end user machine. Both versions respect the dev intentions of "no packages" as it downloads the code and compiles it. The problem that it was about were probably two

  1. Documentation on how to compile is insufficient. It depends on many libraries but doesn't say which exact version which causes issues at compile. Someone did the guesswork and wrote "instructions" (the pkgbuild file) for everyone but it's not the main dev and it breaks often

  2. Because it downloads the code from git, it might be an issue if it's not tagged correctly, users get the latest commit instead of latest release and that's undesirable (didn't check for this case, but it was an issue for other emulators where non devs could run buggy code and complain about non-issues)

It's more a case by case situation, not universal. In a place where car thefts are rampant they wouldn't offer that, for example

And the initial deposit is massive

the license change is invalid as it's based from GPL3 code and previous contributors did not allow the change

Refuse to build in Arch package environments. My license does not allow for packages

but it's not a package. On arch it downloads the source from his own git and it compiles it on the end user machine. He is a dev and doesn't know that? Or just pretending?

AUR is just (automated) instructions on how to compile (except -bin, in that case it's packaged)

A previous commit of the readme even said:

Linux users are encouraged to build from source when possible

yes, good luck building from source without documentation on what libraries do you need

Wait until the shareholders discover that with $0.01 in API tokens a LLM can do the same "job" of a CEO, if not even better. And if the decision is unpopular just blame the algorithm! "Sorry we will switch to ceomind_v2_2065_06_04"

How often do they change flavors that they need a full blown computer to show the logo, probably downloading it from a remote server, compared to just a backlighted sheet with a printed image?

in this case, hertz doesn't rent to who doesn't have a credit card

debit = no rent

The pictured one is an universal socket that can accept any plug sold in the eu, because if you go to buy any fridge or oven or washer it comes with the German plug

Otherwise, any other plug (phone chargers, lamps, laptops) comes with the standard which is this:

It doesn't fit in a German plug as the diameter of the holes and the spacing is slightly different, hence the weirdly shaped wholes

It has both prongs insulated so you don't get accidentally electrocuted if your finger accidentally touch one during unplugging (especially toddlers)

In my house I exclusively got pure L sockets without the double holes and I wanted to kill the sadist electrician who decided to install them everywhere. (It's a money issue, universal socket by regulations need 2.5 mm² section copper wires, while the 10A L socket can use cheaper 1.5 mm² section copper wires - but still, how much he saved, 50€ in total? Asshole, I had to spend 3x that to replace all the sockets)

I have that exact Aiwa music player.

Last Sunday when I went back to my parents house, I noticed that the clock was blinking because there was a blackout, so I turned on and I saw that the 5 CD changer not only gets stuck but the laser doesn't see the discs anymore 😢

I'm sad

Usually asking to LLM works like this:

"I want to do this and I think it's a good idea, what do you think?"

✅ Perfect, it's a fantastic idea and you need to do that ASAP (add three paragraphs of slop about why it's the best thing ever)

"Someone told me I should do that but I'm not sure, what do you think?"

❌ Absolutely no! They have hidden reasons to push you like that (add three paragraphs of slop about why you shouldn't trust that person and how to cut them from your life)

In the 90s, in my country, a single person made a webpage stating that Microsoft minesweeper promotes war and violence, so since windows 95 if the Windows locale is set to my language, minesweeper becomes "flower field" and you have to find flowers instead of mines

Got this pamphlet for a 3d printer and they're boasting "proprietary software!" on the flyer like it's a pro and not a con

I read that people asked LLMs to get regurgitated slop instead of directly reading the real source and I didn't believe that.

So, 12ft got shut down by publishers but chatgpt not? Shutdown now!

I found a very nice woman that was selling those REBIRTH codes for just a couple thousand euro, so I got one for me and all my family.

The problem is that I see no way to apply/redeem those codes? Where to type? The instructions say to align my soul with the northern lights but that's not clear. Am I supposed to get a confirmation message when redeemed?

I tried to contact the seller but she's not answering my calls

Edit: I forgot to censor the code but I don't know how to replace the image in this post. DO NOT REDEEM!

I installed tinytopia using steam on Linux, but it installs a pre release beta instead of the final version. It looks like the dev actually build a Linux version when in early access but then neglected the platform.

In this case it can be ok as it's not too different from the final windows build (physics of gravity looks off sometimes) and I can run at 60fps at ultra settings on my laptop, while if I run it from windows it's a slideshow with the same graphics settings but I'm wondering: Is it possible to tell steam to ignore the native build and use the windows one with proton?

And of course they had to shoehorn some AI bullshit in it

(why I installed this driver: because i can remap the two extra buttons as copy/paste)

After getting ads to vote 20 times for "New day will rise" at the Eurovision now I'm getting ads to show how evil is Iran and why they must be stopped now.

From the article: Some fucker bought 40k CSAM images with PayPal and when the authorities compared the hash of those images with the database they found out 285 known victims in 1500 images

The victims can file restitution charges

I hope the process is almost automated and the victims don't have to relive the abuse with each trial (only 19 known victims applied in this case which makes me think it might be a painful process to apply...)

TL;DR: when the technician put hands on my device, disabled NTP (unattended time updates from internet) and locked settings with a password so I'm forced to pay him €50/hour to change the time

The year is 2018: there was a burglary in my building and my SO begged me for an alarm system. Perfect, so I ordered immediately a 3G Arduino shield and some PIR sensors.

WTF is that, you're not going to DIY that shit, right? I want something that works all the time and doesn't require any fiddling, no wireless sensors that go out of battery and you will notice after years. And I don't want flying wires everywhere, call a professional that will run cables in existing conduits

So I searched for a fully wired solution that didn't have any subscriptions/servers/internet/apps yet allow remote control and call police when required (commercial solutions with a certification can directly interface with police) and that with professional installation didn't cost an arm and a leg. And that allows easy change of settings in the future.

The day of install, the technician tells me "give me the sim card" - to which I reply "it's ok I install it later when you're done" but to my dismay he said "no, the system must be bound to the sim card serial number using the installation tool".

Fuck! I totally overlooked this! So i run to the city searching for a company that gives me a reasonably priced IOT sim card and do it immediately. Luckily I found one and I come back in time after a couple hours, he was almost done and I notice that he's not setting it up using the main unit screen, but instead was using his laptop via serial.

"Huh? I thought it could be set via the screen"

"Yes, but via computer I have access to more settings "

And I didn't pay attention to this sentence until now.

I had to remove electricity for a couple hours to install some Shelly relays in the light switches, when I was done the alarm said "RTC error, set time again".

Ah yes, after all those years the battery is dead = dead RTC. It's ok, I take the user manual and see how to change the time, but the menu doesn't show that. Huh? How? The manual states also that it could update via NTP if internet is available or via GSM cell info if no internet is available. Perfect! So I wait for one day and... nothing. Wait a couple more... nothing.

I finally call support: they tell me that if the menu is missing, it's because the tech used their special software over serial to hide time setting and NTP, for "security", as an attacker could disable the alarm by doing a MITM over the NTP and change the time to daytime and get the alarm disable by itself with the timer

Conclusion : I have to pay 50-100 euro to someone come to my house to personally do something as trivial as just change the time

One week ago i got a 32gb ipad. Excited for the new toy, I took hundreds of stupid photos with that 720p front webcam using photobooth, downloaded them from icloud, deleted them, and now they're in the trash.

Now the ipad is complaining it's full memory. Full memory? What? Already? I barely used it. I investigated the issue and saw that photos are taking 4gb.

4gb? How? Saw on icloud there's not that usage on photos:

empty icloud

The pics i took were 720p images, when i downloaded them from icloud they were like 50mb in total

Uncompressed lossless caches of old photos? How to fix this?

New Windows 11 release comes with a new Windows 11 bug: middle click on explorer icon on taskbar doesn't open a new window anymore.

This taskbar shit seems so hard to do for microsoft, they took 3 years to fix the combined icons bug

same for "reopen explorer windows at login" which was broken for more than one year

If all their 100k devs are unable to fix it, why don't they open source it and rely on some amateur hobbyist to fix it for free in their spare time?

Now I understand why at each windows 11 update, they introduce more bugs than ever

Got an email that says "please pay $33 + shipping to get a t-shirt with our ad on it"

There's people that would actually pay for something like this? This stuff is usually give away for free at conferences and then used as a sleeping dress, no?
