If you've never played these games I recommend them highly! Fantastic soundtrack and the writing is dramatic and funny.

Looks really cool! I dont think I can see myself playing it but I might grab the book for the art.

Many lemmy communities started three months ago with the reddit exodus. Comparing them to subreddits with years of content will leave you disappointed.

What you are doing here (submitting a post) is what it is going take to make that change.

That said !achievers@lebowski.social has a decent size feed and !comicstrips@lemmy.world is good too

I also really like !gameart@sopuli.xyz and it is on the best instance.

If you read it left to right top to bottom it feels like a very exasperated client repeating "No there has to be a P and an S! No not a question mark! No not squiggles!" and so on until the final two.

One of the skills, I think its crippling, turns into an arrow going through a knee as you level it up.

Thought this was a really cool run! I love KH1 but I can't imagine beating it without upgrading the keyblade/armor.

The image overwrites the url on lemmy so here is a link oncomputer.games

Always happy to see the pom poko boys! Blog looks neat and I subscribed to the youtube channel.

When I first started Soul Calibur VI I was on the fence about it and didn't want to get too invested. So when I got to the character creator I just made a giant red skeleton and hit complete.

But then I ended up putting a ton of time into the game, completing all the side content I could find and reading everything available in game. I grew attached to my skele and started to accessorize him and give him a personality. Now whenever I look at old captures I feel a lot of attachment to a custom character I made in less than 5 minutes.

Did you human centipede your starship??

For a moment I thought it was Pete Weber of "Who do you think you are, I am! fame.

I've actually played the fix, and while its still not an amazing game, its pretty decent for the 2600.

If you haven't played 3 you absolutely should! I enjoy the first two games a lot but the third is something special.

Version with just the classic caption for anyone who wants it

Really cool series of articles going over some Japanese games you have probably never heard of. As a retro pixel art fan this feels like a gold mine.

I found it at a retro store when I was in college. I was collecting NES games at the time and would buy anything with "dragon" in the name. Definitely worth the price, though getting it for free sounds great!

I spend a lot of time on youtube, often having it on in the background while I do other things. I thought it would be fun to share some of the creators I love, as finding good content on youtube can be difficult. I'll probably do another of these soon. If you have a favorite not listed here share them in the comments!

Ross Scott's Game Dungeon

My personal favorite. Ross digs into all sorts of pc games, and has a very unique style of reviewing. It is hard for me to put in to words without over simplifying, but if you said someone who is losing his mind willfully subjecting himself to games that will make him lose his mind I would say you have the gist of it. He also has a strong belief in game preservation, and has made videos with passionate arguements for it.

I would reccomend his coverage of Killing Time or Eternam

thorhighheels

Thor brings an eclectic mix of videos, usually chasing after a certain style, or feeling. He is a musician as well, and often goes into what the sound design can bring to a game or series. Most of his content is video essays, but he does a great job of keeping things interesting, and not taking longer than necessary to make his point. I'd reccomend this video where he goes over "mysterious" fighting games.

SNES Drunk

When playing retro games it can be hard to know what is worth your time. SNES Drunk has made enough high-quality and entertaining reviews to fill this 10 hour video of SNES game reviews. No specific reccomendation, just pick any of his 5ish minute videos to check out.

Classic Gaming Quarterly

CGQ goes over old media and promotional material for retro consoles. Check out this video where he goes through an issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Pikasprey Yellow

The reverse-Houdini of Pokemon. Using a long series of steps he finds ways to mess up his playthrough so much that it could take 100s of hours to escape, and then he tries to escape. This video sums it up pretty well.

When you start playing Dragon Warrior you are given an important message by the king, the bad guy is back and you need to stop him. As you step outside the castle and are taken to the world map this is what you see.

That castle on the bottom right, surrounded by a poisonous bog, is your destination. If you could cross a few water tiles you could confront the Dragonlord right now. Unfortunately that cannot be done, and instead the game takes you on a journey through points 1 to 13 listed in the original image.

The effect is neat at the end of the game as well. As you approach the villain's lair you can see the castle where it all began.

Looks fun! I really like the look of the angels in plate armor. I don't know if you can call it the rebirth of fantasy tactic rpgs though, I feel like that genre has had a decent amount of creative entries over the last few years.
