Oh shit it’s crosscode’s 5th anniversary
Think of it this way: do they see themselves being colleagues with their classmates directly in the future? If so, is there anyone in the class who would directly snitch if they saw them? Do they believe that the people in the class will be in charge of their interview prospects in applications?
In my experience, maintaining public facing social media accounts where I simply post about my life and keeping politics to direct interactions with people and pseudononymous forums is the balance I’ve found best to strike. Employers look mainly for public-facing social accounts, ones attached to your name.
For me, in-person agitation has only made me one enemy on campus () and I just make a point not to talk to them if they see me. However, YMMV here. I’d urge them to go for it, personally.
