Yeah, from what I understand the first script was a lot better, I know they originally wanted to have all of them get killed during the last scene by an Mi-24 and leave it completely ambiguous whether their guerilla war actually achieved anything, whereas the final cut has one of the characters stood next to a war memorial with a voice over that's like "and then we defeated Communism and Reagan became president again lolololol". I think John Milius ended up rewriting a bunch of it which explains why any nuance is washed away by frothing chud energy.

That's amazing, I really need to rewatch that film at some point and play spot the brainworm. I have kind of a soft spot for iconic '80s chud movies; in the UK there's one called "Who Dares Wins" (or sometimes "The Final Option") where a bunch of true Brexit SAS geezers have to fight militant Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament members, it's incredibly shit.
