I think the problem is that for a long time Tesla, and specifically Elon, went around telling everyone how great their autopilot was. Turns out that was all exaggeration and sometimes flat out lying.

They showed videos of the car driving on its own. Later, we found out it was actually being controlled remotely.

Yeah, the driver wasn’t operating the vehicle safely but, Tesla told him that he didn’t have to.

Nope! The only laws that really apply to those are which breaks are paid and which are not. If you are given any breaks, 20 minutes or less must be paid and count towards OT. Anything over can be off the clock.

My bf has a discord server with his friends too. Whenever one of this is online, they hop in the voice channel and just hang out. If someone else logs in, they chat, otherwise they just leave it up.

There’s no federal law in the US that requires them to give you a lunch break. My state doesn’t have one either.

Check your local laws. In many states, there is no requirement that you take a lunch. There is no federal requirement for that either.

I’ve had employers tell me that that I legally had to clock out for a certain amount of time, but that’s bullshit. It might be company policy but it’s not a law.

Also, this applies to teens working too. The laws are bad. Found this out when Subway was making my 16 yr old niece work 9-12 hour shifts with no lunch break.

Bad news, they are gonna end up hiring a bunch of proud boys. Also bad news, they won’t do the job right, and we’ll pay loads of money in lawsuits and end up with far too many funerals

I’m sorry but that’s not a dog. That’s a potato. Still a very good boy.

I had to look it up. I think it’s a typo. Looks like it’s about 5km north of the border. It’s a suburb of Montreal. Most of the lake is in the US, but the tip is in Canada.

Is this what Qatar was like before the World Cup?

He is FAST. I speculate if I took the time to do agility training, he would dominate. But we’re content doing walks and cuddling on the couch for now.

It sounds like you and your wife have a healthy relationship. That’s awesome! But, for possessive and controlling relationships, surveillance can be harmful.

Personally, my location is shared with my sister. I’d share it with my partner but he is a bit of a Luddite. I wouldn’t be sharing because he asked, I would be doing it so he could find me easily in an emergency.

And, I wouldn’t ask him to share his. If he turned it on and wanted me to have it, that’s cool. And if not, that’s cool too.

Dunkey ain’t wrong. What are they even doing?

Do any of you know about low cost/free vet care in the metro? I have a neighbor that has pets which need health care. I want to give the some info on assistance programs to help, but I haven't been able to find much.

They have a dog that lives outside under a trampoline and I'm worried he may be dealing with flystrike. I'm sure he isn't vaccinated.

They also have cats that aren't spayed/neutered and frequently end up with kittens. One looked in bad shape and they told me it has seizures. When I asked about their vet, they told me that had someone coming by to look at her. No idea what that meant.

I'd rather not have to call Animal Welfare services if I don't have to, but I will. I like animals more than people.

I'll take any recommendations or suggestions you have!

This little guy is called quokka. They only live on a small part of Australia, and they're unbelievably cute! Just found out about them today

EDIT:

Thanks for all the advice! I got a lot of long detailed comments back. I’m reading each one and doing some research, but I wanted to make sure I thanked everyone for the replies!

Original Post:

Hello, Fediverse!

Recently, my company moved to remote work, full time. Since I’m not making a long commute each day, I’m really interested in getting a small bike I can ride for errands. I’d love to get some advice from this community about it.

Needs

First, I’m a woman at average or maybe even slightly below average height. I want to make sure it’s something I can actually ride without feeling like a little girl in mommy’s shoes.

Second, I don’t just want to ride. I want to work on it and learn how engines work. I’m a very mechanical person and I love this kind of thing. It’s fun for me. I’m happy to buy a bike that might not be running immediately because it gives me an opportunity to learn and tinker.

Last, I don’t need to go fast and I don’t want to take it in a big highway, but I do live near a state highway with a limit of 55mph. I’d like to be able to safely ride there:

Aesthetics

I’m not a huge fan of the Harley Davidson type low rider style but I wouldn’t rule it out entirely if it made sense against my other needs. I’m also open to scooters/mopeds if I can safely ride at 55mph.

I tend to like 80s style cars and bikes. Especially the bikes that aren’t quite sport but have some nods to it. Example: Kawasaki KZ, Honda CB, Suzuki GS, Yamaha XS (Japanese name followed by two consonants collection) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Looks aren’t as important to me as the other needs to be honest.

Current Motorcycle Knowledge

Next to nothing. I know the basics of how an engine works. I know how to change my own oil. I have done big repairs on my own cars in the past, but with guides.

I plan on taking a riding class. I know I’ll need safety equipment, such as a helmet. I do have a gear-head in my life so I have someone that I can ask questions to, but I’m mostly starting at zero.

Aside from bike suggestions, I’d love to hear something you wish you knew before you got your first bike!

TLDR:

What would you recommend for someone who wants to learn about engines but isn’t particularly tall? Anything you wish you knew before getting your first bike?

My neighbor and his wife like to give my boys treats and pets, but the fence made it hard. ❤️

He cut a window added hinges and a latch so he could pet the dogs.

I recently introduced my sister-in-law to DCC. Now, she sends me memes from the subreddit.
