There might be a config for it, but I use a plugin called auto tab discard. Very configurable. Saves ram too
The internet's superpower is to drain words of meaning.
Initially the word Tankie was a very specific, very directed insult. It was a pejorative for like. Y'know, Soviet-Union simps. "Leftists" that spent a lot of time memorizing Soviet Union WW2 trivia and adorning themselves in Soviet ephemera, much like how certain nazi teens do. The accusation was very direct and very clear: "You do not care about the workers' cause. You just like the Soviet aesthetic and have a very weird thing for ww2". Like a Wehraboo except they'll call you 'Comrade' instead of a racial slur.
It then, by simple extension, became a pejorative for Marxist-leninists. Cuz of course. Most MLs are Soviet Union simps, later they transitioned to being China simps and would you look at that, China also offers a lot of military ephemera they can be, y'know, weird about. Of course if you lack a bit of context you can then use it for any vaguely authoritarian 'leftist' and you won't even be all that wrong, it's close enough.
Eventually though? It sorta leaked (thanks a lot, Adam Something)
... And now there's a lot of like, straight up Neoliberals using the term 'Tankie' as an insult in the same way their conservative grandparents would have used the term 'Pinko'. It has entirely exited the purview of leftist discourse.
From what I gathered (that is, an internet search), it's a UI-side glitch. Lemmy IS just a prototype that is being put through the meat grinder with all the Reddit refugees.
In my experience? It doesn't even make a difference. You'll see "subscribe pending" communities on your sub feed like normal.
If you unsub and resub a few times it should work anyway.
Me for the past 2 years.
Sometimes I gotta do a bit of tinkering, but it's nonetheless doable, and it's only been getting better.
Coffee is beans.
Comprehensible and respectable, even if it is on a level I cannot even think of reaching.
There are dozens of us! Dozens!
I just sit right on the bathroom floor. Don't even care. I'm the one who cleans that bathroom, I know that shits clean, yanno?
(why do you do that, though?)
It's not about being afraid.
Customizing takes time and effort, which I'd rather use like.
Doing stuff?
Unless I want to re-customize it to be something else, I'd rather not re-make my entire set-up. I figured out what the relevant files were to how my whole set-up (DE look & behaviour, dotfiles for like fish
and nvim
) and copied it all to a USB Drive that I just drop onto my home folder whenever I install my OS on a new computer.
Shared a bed with my bf for the first time early this year.
The morning after he called me a "lil' blanket thief". The night after that he ruled we should use separate blankets.
Honestly, made things easier for the both of us. :P
My tipping point was actually how trigger-happy Windows Defender is about crack software and how you literally cannot meaningfully disable it without first breaking apart the entire OS. -- Only do a temporary turn-off that only lasts until the next time the computer is turned on. Or another less temporary turn-off that lasts until the next system update. Which. Fuck off. I can tell a feature that is working against me from how hard it is for me to get rid of it.
I won't be one of those liars who tells you "Linux is eaaaaaaaaasy, you'll get it in no time"
It's a skillset. You'll have to learn stuff. You'll have to browse wikis and ask for help on Discord servers and fucc around a lot. Plus it has this thing that when something works it works really well, and when something doesn't work, boy are you in for a capital-F-fun afternoon.
But it keeps me happy with how much I can customize my experience to my own personality, and how fast and smooth it is, even on my old, beat-up laptops.
Still keep a windows install around for those days when I need some application that doesn't exist on Linux, doesn't have a viable alternative, and won't play ball with Wine/Proton. But those are becoming rarer and rarer. Maybe one day I'll be rich enough to have a computer with several GPUs and I'll virtualize Windows instead of dual-booting it.
Now I need the names for the S tiers
