Been like that since the 90s really. Microsoft's "secret sauce" is that they never gave a shit about the end users.

They make bank by courting enterprise users: Big companies with hundreds of employees, OEMs, governments, schools, etc.

In recent times they found a way to double-dip by putting in telemetry/data collection/ads/adware -- But before that they just didn't care.

It does help that windows makes the user develop learned helplessness and so by the time they are getting their own computer, they'll want to stay in the windows environment. So they also get the inflated marketshare, which feeds back into their pitch when they are courting those enterprises.

Linux applications often give you some descriptive error that you can paste into an internet search and usually find someone who had the same problem.

Windows applications just stop working and say "UNEXPECTED ERROR" or smth. Like thanks you literally didn't help at all.

(almost like the fictional character was named that for a reason--)

On the one hand I am entirely sick of how people will keep wasting keystrokes on this kind of discourse when the whole point of Linux is that you can choose which one you like best.

On the other, someone on a different community said it best: "Hey, if Linux users didn't fight about what thing they want to make standard, what ELSE would we meme about?"

John Snow

For finally convincing westerners that microbes exist. Which got the ball rolling on like, actual medicine.

That's all.

I've made local copies of the code base and executables for both emus. Just in case.

Not that I think it's needed per se. Projects were open source, and while the devs are barred from continuing application development... It's a matter of time before the dust settles and some nerds pick up the code base and work on it

(for now any forks are just copy pastes made by randos, but that's now)

Yeah, defnitely not a thing in Brazil. We get rich idiots bragging about their iPhones, sure, but the text bubble thing never came over.

... Broadly because we don't. Text in Brazil. We use WhatsApp or Telegram.

SMS/MMS was never really a thing here.

As someone who was just about to downvote (and then lost interest) it's just that I'm. So. Fucking. Sick of SystemD discourse. Yall have been at this for 15+ years now. Let it fucking go. Fuck.

Update! It is fixed:

It really was due to me having sddm-git installed rather than regular sddm. Switching back solved the problem. Not 100% sure why it was caused, but since I didn't even remember WHY I had installed the git version, cost nothing to switch back.

In other words, it was my own incompetency that caused this. It's fixed now. Making this post just so that, in case someone ever finds themselves searching this shit... Yea.
