Sometimes. Sometimes people do just want to have things be exactly the same, and that's unrealistic.

LibreOffice is not feature-complete compared to MS Office, though. Some people do regularly use collaborative editing as part of their workflow, and there's not support for that yet. Furthermore, LibreOffice does not yet fully support tracking changes, which can be integral to some users (as it is to the comic creator).

I largely agree that MS products are bullshit, but assuming people's issues and belittling their reasoning shore as hail ain't gonna make them switch. It's kinda the issue that this cartoonist is frustrated about. (Though they did have to portray the discussion pretty unrealistically to get that across.)

I just sent some money your way. I can't give much but I hope it helps.

So sweet!

I was just checking in on this community because it feels like I never see posts from here (I guess all the mtfs just live on onehundredninetysix).

Hope everyone's week is fantastic!

I suppose I've just been very fortunate with all my other software, but I haven't had to jump through too many hoops to get stuff working.

I also generally just stick with 2 or 3 distros I know well, which has definitely helped usability. I'd imagine most casual users would do the same.

I'll be honest, though. That shit is ready for gaming. I haven't had real issues in games in years. Maybe a couple games display some reflections incorrectly, but I'm golden besides that. The only "problem" I've had is that a the anticheats for a lot of big, corporate, live-service games don't support Linux. They could, if the developers wanted. I can actually play some official Microsoft games that use anticheat on Linux.

So like, Linux probably wouldn't be good for you if you only play Call of Duty, but let's be real: if you only play Call of Duty, you're used to getting your teeth kicked in by the software company you stan. Keep on usin' Windows, it's just fine for your purposes.

Crazy how much of the scenario person #2 has to already know about to come across like an asshole here.

IRL:

"It can be so frustrating to work with Microsoft Office sometimes."

"Why don't you just use LibreOffice? I switched five years ago and haven't looked back."

"Well, it lacks the functionality I need for my work, offers no support, and is fundamentally incompatible with my clients' workflow."

"Oh shit dude that sucks, guess it's not ready for the big leagues just yet. What's it missing that you need?"

[conversation ensues]

Weird Pains on Estrogen? (lemmy.blahaj.zone)
submitted 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) by VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone to c/mtf@lemmy.blahaj.zone

So I started oral estradiol 2mg and bicalutimide 50mg about 2 weeks ago. A week in, I started feeling these weird pains in my body. They felt like small stabbing pains that immediately dulled - almost like the pain of getting an injection, and were always in my legs, arms, or chest.

I asked my doctor about it, and he had no idea. He just said they weren't a reported side effect of either med, and the only way to tell if it was the meds was to stop them.

I'm really paranoid about, like, fucking dying, so I stopped my medication 3 days ago and the pains have subsided. I was just wondering if anyone here has shared my experience. I'd like to know what the hell that was, and if it's safe to continue treatment.

It amazes me how country music used to be laser focused on the working class, given the state of the genre now.

I guess that's how music made in a consumption culture inevitably turns out.

Amazon Shopping Alternatives (lemmy.blahaj.zone)
submitted 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) by VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone to c/Resist@fedia.io

To follow up my previous post, I did some research on alternatives to Amazon Shopping to suggest to anyone interested in ditching Amazon. Note that I have not personally read each company's mission statement. AFAIK, all of these businesses are registered as B Corporations.

If anyone has any reasons that any of these sites aren't a good replacement for Amazon (ie shitty business practices), please let me know so that I can reconsider their inclusion on this list. If anyone has more suggestions as well, I'm all ears. I'll be working on an infographic with this same information as well, to be more easily spread throughout social media.

Monetary Protests (lemmy.blahaj.zone)
submitted 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) by VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone to c/Resist@fedia.io

I was sent this by a friend who saw it trending around various social media which I don't use.

Personally, I think it would do good to lengthen the economic blackouts to 3-7 days. But, any coordination helps, and I think the weeklong corporate boycotts will at least send a message.

I'm looking for other places to share this. I checked BuildTheResistance, but I couldn't figure out a way to submit dates for a protest without a link to a site. I have a link for the February 28th blackout, and I would be grateful to anyone that could help me in sourcing these other protests.

EDIT: found the sources! They're all by The People's Union USA. It's just that all the boycotts besides the 28th are tucked away in their FAQs page.

I should say, as well: I think general boycotts are a good idea, and I support the idea of protesting on these dates. However, I don't necessarily trust The People's Union USA. They have a login feature. Don't be so foolish as to make an account on a fucking resistance website.

I find it hard to believe that this was done unironically by right-wingers, every second of it is hilarious. Though I guess Poe's Law dictates it's probably real.

This is one of those videos where the quotes just pop into my head at random in daily life.

Now you look at me, and you look at Samoa Joe...
