This is where the Fediverse gets tested. Without a big corporate budget to bring extra servers online on a whim, balancing load during rushes is going to be difficult.
Then again, Reddit servers went down a lot and they’re big and corporate.
If you created the sub, then there would be some assumption you can close it if you’d like.
I have seen the same, but it’s at that exact time that I notice the Lemmy.ml site is also running very slowly so I’ve assumed it’s server load issues.
Hard to harvest karma when it’s not a thing here.
I’m off Reddit fully but I don’t think it’ll be an implosion. With a few other apps striking deals, some will switch to those while others will stick with the main. I think mostly OGs and people more comfortable with tech are the ones who made the switch.
It’s well within reason to fight it just like it’s within reason that users will find other ways. I don’t think it makes Google evil to try to stop people from blocking their ads, but this is the internet and people will always find another way around it.
It just goes to show that, even if you created the sub, you’re not an owner, but just a caretaker and the powers that be can overrule your decision making. Not even Facebook does that with their communities.
Why people would continue to provide free labor for moderating is beyond me. I guess there’s a passion behind each and every sub, but still.
I’ve tuned in to at least parts of 90% of games this season. This is one of the few I’ve missed and I’m kicking myself. My Apple TV even notified me that “Domingo German is dealing” and I ignored it.
I’m a Yankees fan. I missed a perfect game. FML.
And it, thankfully, changed the trajectory of the entire industry. Phones were TERRIBLE before the competition picked up.
