My first thought was "๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒˆ toxic masculinity".

Thank goodness no US factory I have worked for would tolerate this kind of crap. Hazing at best, absolutely a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Last finished was Just Like Home by Sarah Gailey. It's a haunted house story with a twist. I would recommend to people who like horror.

Currently reading a first aid manual, On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder, and The Woman in Black by Susan Hill. The first aid manual is handy, but reading it doesn't do much good without training and experience. OT is short and good, very on the nose for this Trump term. Woman in Black is another horror book; from 1983 and proving "elevated horror" isn't a new thing.

Meeting through friends and social groups like sports, clubs, church, whatever, is much better than cold approaches, IMO. I can see a dude display they have social skills and we both have something more than "he/she is pretty" to go on.

Don't have friends and hobbies? Tackle that before worrying about dating. Romantic relationships are like friendships but on expert mode.

Counter-question, how can I make it clear I DO NOT want to be cold-approached by ANYONE while at the beach? Headphones, sunglasses, and my face in a book has not worked.

How do you strike up a convo/friendship with a man?

Always my first question because too many folks asking questions like this don't. If a person can't cultivate a platonic friendship, a romantic relationship is beyond their current skill levels. Romantic relationships are hard mode.

Climbing. The IFSC World Championships are going on now through September in cities around the world. I love the combination of puzzle-solving and absolutely insane athletic performance.

I work in a job with contractual language and care deeply about the placement of every comma in that context.

Outside that in everyday life, I don't care about any grammer rule so long as I can understand the writer's intent.

Lesbian and bisexual women are different. They have learned telepathy from all their pet cats. They have also learned the stand-offishness from their cats so sadly, it still doesn't help them make the first move.

Don't get me wrong please, I know I'm just an old fart and I have no intentions whatsoever, but I just wanted to say that I think you're very pretty - especially naked.

Even before you said it, you knew it was inappropriate. That's why you tried to excuse it even as you were saying it. I read the rest of your post but it only convinced me you're not taking ownership and are now retconning your own intentions. You meant to hit on her and backtracked when she didn't reciprocate.

Well, shoot. I go down a couple times a year for work. That would be a delightful slice of joy to otherwise dull trips.

Edit: nvm, OP posts indicate they expect more diversity of political opinions, which might mean they're actually looking for Truth Social instead of Lemmy.

When we were kids, my brother would get mean when bored. Low-grade physical stuff, hard pinches, pulled hair, coming into my room to harass me and break toys, enough to cause pain without evidence if I were to complain. I asked my mom to intervene, she didn't want to deal with it, so she gave me the old phrase, "if you don't know what to do, spit in a shoe and do it again at half past two".

So I spat in my brothers shoe every time he messed with me. And for good measure, I spat in my mom's shoe too for letting him continue to abuse me.

Wait, how do you go from TSA policy on shoes to a supermax prison in Colorado?
