I think he should’ve spent a few more milliseconds thinking about that excuse. The head of the army didn’t know what happens to failed coup leaders before he agreed to lead a planned-to-fail coup?

Obviously from the public-facing side of things, the failed coup leader has to be arrested. So in his story this is the point where he’s surprised and decides to go public? Did he think that there was some tangibly realistic scenario where the coup fails and he gets caught but isn’t arrested and prosecuted?
