Probably not all that long unless you're someone who is really good at your opsec and is using tempmail over a VPN for every social media you sign up for, and never use a consistent username, password or phone number.

No but genuinely I resonate with this answer so much. Imagine if you needed to pass a computer literacy test to own any sort of "smart" device/computer and needed a license to operate it. It would eliminate so many scam call centers and would make so many IT teams work load decrease 10x. Imagine the complete LACK of mis/disinformation on the internet. Sometimes i wish that were the world we were in.

For now.

What happens when OEMs start shipping their own mac-style ARM SOCs. Projects like Asahi take years to get to a workable state, and that's on a device that millions own.

To answer my own question, PostMarketOS happens. Devices that mostly don't work with the exception of a couple unicorn devices that are still missing features the end user would have on the OEM OS.

x86_64 will eventually fall out of fashion. Its already happened with Macs & Chromebooks. Its only a matter of time for Windows based devices. Then we're completely reliant on the goodwill of companies like Tuxedo, Framework and Steam to support us.

Here's a good writeup of why Brave is an option that really should be avoided: https://www.spacebar.news/stop-using-brave-browser/

The only problems ive had with Librewolf have been from poorly designed edu websites (think college textbooks with shitty DRM). Most websites function just fine.

Ill also throw IronFox on Android and SnowHaze on iOS into the mix for non-desktop users.
