My only understanding of the Khmer Rouge is they were partially funded by the CIA.

So you’re saying he might not be forward with the truth? Shocking.

I work in manufacturing. To do WW2 levels of manufacturing you would need a population smart enough to use the different measuring tools to keep all these potential products within tolerance so that way they actually work. When you’re talking about production at that scale you need to be able to take the average person off the street and put them on a lathe or mill immediately and to be completely honest I’ve seen my company hire people off the street and for the most part they cannot hack it. I’m not saying these people are stupid, but they aren’t used to this kind of work because it’s been outsourced for so long. We make pretty simple parts too, nothing at all as complex as equipment for war. It’s hard to get people to understand how to measure the diameter of a circle let alone getting them to build an M-16. This is what happens when you cut funding to education. Modern economies need well funded education or else when the time comes you need a lot of people to make stuff you’re fucked.

Abbot is hardly a political opponent on level with the president, but also unironically this dude legitimately defied orders from the federal government so yeah he should be arrested if Biden actually had the will to do it.

I took that more as people from the 1800s were weird about sex than anything. Obviously it’s still going to strike a nerve because of the context though.

The johns explicitly didn’t do anything wrong. They were all just embarrassing guys whose punishment was not being able to be vulnerable to anyone other than a stranger. At least that’s how I read it.

The movie doesn’t explicitly punish a lot of the guys actually. I saw the point of the brothel scenes as the main character coming to terms with her position in life and taking charge of her own path after separating from mark ruffalo (I forgot the characters name). The thing about the Johns though is that it was clear that their “punishment” if you could call it that is the only way they could be vulnerable is with a prostitute.

It’s about the development of women’s psychology as they age to partially explain why the special needs aspect is touched on. If you haven’t seen it I recommend it because the movie is well done and not nearly as bad as people who cannot for the life of them understand a metaphor are saying.

To put it in perspective my wife made me watch it and I went in completely blind. Hadn’t even seen a trailer or anything. At first I was like WTF but as the story progressed it became clear this movie isn’t actually about sexually abusing special needs people.

It really did blow everything else this year out of the water. I wish they had expanded on socialism more but it is what it is. At least it was shown positively.

I still think the assessment that if Russia wanted to actually mobilize their armed forces to attack Ukraine outside the confines of the SMO they would steamroll Ukraine is still pretty much true. Obviously more Russian casualties would have been taken, but it’s not like they don’t have the ability to do it. Advances aren’t fast for the Russians because so far advancing slowly with an aversion to casualties has been working for them. On the other hand if America announced it would send American troops to Ukraine en mass (which would take months at least) you would see Russia change their strategy because now there is a time table placed on it.

American ISR is not going to be a large enough factor for the Ukrainian defense to hold off Russia because although ISR is very necessary, it’s pretty much worthless if you don’t actually have the resources to do anything with the information you’ve gathered. At this point the American ISR in place is just for us to monitor Ukraine for doctrinal purposes.
