Damn I’m an American and even I’ve never had to experience anything like that. Im sorry you’ve had to go through that.
Tunnelvision
I would start shitting myself because you wouldn’t be able to convince me I didn’t do that with my mind.
That’s a horrendously accurate way to describe that time of history. I’ve never thought about it like that but you’re right. Usually the two wars are described as WW1 and then WW2 being a continuation of that, but I’ve never seen the dynamic of revolution and counterrevolution described before.
I’ve been following loosely mostly due to work stuff, but I understand the gist of it. I guess my main point is since the ground invasion, attacks on US bases in the region have increased and I’m sure these are not the first Americans to be killed from those attacks. Are these the first attacks from “Iran backed militias” or something? Why is this attack so special that war with Iran (which in my honest opinion would be a huge blow to the American empire because we would not win, which is another reason I don’t think this is as big of a deal as others think) seems to be on everyone’s lips?
Is this really where we go to war with Iran? Haven’t these incidences been happening for the past while? How is this one any different?
I don’t agree with that assessment really. It was the very indiscriminate nature of the bombing that led to people in general caring about the Palestinian people at all really. Also the time between Oct 7th and the ground invasion was like a couple weeks.
You really can’t exterminate an entire population by bombing them exclusively. 20,000+ deaths is a tragedy obviously, but compared to the total population of Gaza shows that even when Israel goes mask off it really can’t do what it wants, especially considering the most militant among them are holding off the Israeli military. It also doesn’t make sense as an indefinite strategy considering the bombing campaign is what causing the international outcry in the first place. This is why I go back to the tunnels and the defeat of Hamas, which I agree is not the primary focus (the extermination/exodus of the Palestinian people is) hamas is still a huge thorn in their side that has to be dealt with if any of their other plans are going to be successful. If you cannot clear out the tunnels how can you defeat Hamas? If you cannot defeat Hamas how can you control Gaza? If you can’t control Gaza how can you build a beach resort or whatever it is they want to do with it? Now the situation is even more dire for Israel because in less than 6 months they’ve gone from one of the most feared militaries in the region to possibly having the entire Zionist project crumbling to dust depending on how a wider conflict could break out.
Hopefully I’m making sense, but I really don’t think it’s possible to defeat the Palestinians at this point much less control all of Gaza.
Did I uhh miss a struggle session?
I’m gonna be honest. I would consider myself pretty knowledgeable on US foreign policy over the years and even I don’t really know anything about what goes down over there. That entire region is so fucked from US meddling that all I can say with certainty is that the US and its allies never should have been there in the first place. Where would be a good place or book to start learning about it with detail?
I feel like this is a signal that Biden might win, and we might go to war in Iran next year.
