I'd say things started to really go downhill when Cameron tried to placate the Tory right-wingers with the Brexit referendum.

We have a company like that here somewhere. When they have one job a year, they have to reduce hours, if they have two, they are doing OK, and if they have three, they have to work overtime like mad. Don't ask me what they are selling, though. It is big, runs on tracks, and fixes roads.
I remember a pull-down with "English" and a UK flag and "English (simplified)" with a US one.

You don't need a "scientist" for that. Any medical personnel shoukd have a good chance to sufficiently preserve a piece of the specimen. If they had questions about how to do that, they could always call or radio a hospital or even university - the latter would probably be more than happy to lend support in such a case.
