Why are there no comments/answers in the whole OOTL community? I need to know the secret of the beans too!

Completely unrelated question: is there a /c/OutOfTheLoop yet?
My understanding is that they're switching to a paid model. As in, you'll have to pay to continue using it, but if you do start paying, it'll work indefinitely. (Or at least until the makers of Infinity make the determination that even having users pay won't be enough to keep Infinity financially sustainable.)
Given that that's Infinity's plan, the theory is that probably the makers of Infinity have gone to Reddit and negotiated an extension of the non-paid API plan long enough for Infinity to implement a way for users to pay for it. I don't think there's any official word exactly how long that extension will be, but the expectation is that it will run out at some point and when it does, you'll have to pay to keep using Infinity.
One thing I'm not sure about, though, is how exactly that'll work given that Infinity is open source. Surely there's a "shared secret" or something involved. And for that kind of authentication method to work, the secret has to stay... well... secret. So they wouldn't be able to just commit that secret to the Github repo. Maybe it'll be some kind of OAuth2 scheme or something where Infinity-owned servers and Reddit servers will communicate behind the scenes to get you logged in.
First the boss throws a hissy fit and starts handing out "verbal writeups" for things that were his fault. Then he imposes 7:30am demos every day to prove we were actually working and not... I guess slacking?
What I've been hearing is that Infinite is planning to switch to a paid model and has basically negotiated an extension while they make the code changes necessary to start using the paid API model. But that extension will run out at some point and then to continue using Infinity, you'll have to start paying.
I believe they're talking about a control stick. At least that's what I'm familiar with.
If this thought intrigues you, you really ought to read Our Mathematical Universe by Max Tegmark.
His take is that there is an infinite number of "parallel" identical yous separated only by distance. And that's before he starts getting into the Mathematical Universe Hypothesis.
I found my own viewpoint leaning toward a neo-pythagorean modal realism sort of perspective before I found this book. I found Our Mathematical Universe by googling for things related to this viewpoint I kindof came to on my own. And I'm very glad I read it.
Any idea how the subscription version is going to work? The API probably requires a shared secret or something. Infinity is an open source app. Are they just going to commit the secret to the repo? If they do, how are they going to prevent just anyone from using Infinity without subscribing? Or maybe they'll make future versions Infinity proprietary?
Lately, when I'm looking for answers and my googling gives me a Reddit link, I pull up the actual reddit page in The Wayback Machine. Admittedly my sample size is small but it hasn't failed me yet.
Some day, though, if Reddit goes down completely or otherwise becomes unavailable to search engines, it will be much harder to find Reddit content by Googling for it.
The other thing I think is a hidden gem of useful info on Reddit is the wikis. It seemed that even sites like Libreddit (when it worked) didn't provide access to those.
There is The Archive Team. They still seem to be actively archiving Reddit (probably via web scraping, not any particular API.) I'm not sure if/how the results of Archive Team scrapes are made available to others, though.
Can't agree more. It's amazing just how many posts I've seen since joining Lemmy equating the left and right, as if "workers should own the means of production" is just as bad as the literal genocide advocated by the hard right.
That said, given that lemmy.ml (and maybe latte.isnot.coffee?) is run by pro-CCP tankies, I think it's worth taking a second to say that defending the genocide of the Uighurs is majorly fucked and the vast majority of hard leftists here on Lemmy vehimently oppose that.
But one can't be hard-right and not be for genocide, basically. Not so on the left.
Thanks!
