I'd say it's more tragic than cruel. In my mind, cruelty requires conscious decision, something the universe is incapable of. The universe isn't inflicting anything, it is simply happening.

I'm not implying your worries are not valid, but I've never understood this perspective. From my point of view, an uncaring universe is freeing. We have no responsibility to any great power, and are free to choose our own path.

Sounds like my experience with Manjaro lol

I've heard a few people on here are starting their own personal instances so they can federate independently with different instances without relying on a larger, third-party instance. If I wanted to do this, would I need to own an actual server, separate from my PC?

That must feel horrible

Currently on the $1/month patron tier for lemmy. Hope it helps the devs!

That's what I did actually! I thought that would bypass any weirdness, but looks like it still did that.

I know that's a feature, I just also heard that we should avoid uploading directly to the instance to avoid clogging it up. Is this actually an issue, or an overreaction?

I posted a pic of my cat to a cat community here, but it added this whole paragraph about "if you like cats, blah blah blah come see more on imgur" in an uneditable box on my page. Is there any way to remove/prevent it?

On a slightly related note, how do I make the post show a thumbnail, like other posts I see here? I see some other imgur submissions with thumbnails, but mine doesn't for some reason. EDIT: Found it! I have to open the image in a new tab, then use that link instead.
