Global populations need to fall further and faster before stabilizing at a sustainable level, commensurate with consumption levels.
Stabilizing the population now is condeming your children to a world that can't accomodate them. There are severe consequences for exceeding planetary boundaries as we are all about to find out.
The burden we are willing to place on current and all future generations for the comfort and convenience of the aged is evil.
If you are young, don't have children. They will resent you for bringing them into this rapidly collapsing distopia.
If you are old, plan for a graceful exit before you burden everyone.
I dunno. I would be cool with it if we stopped mining for Gold with all the environmental problems and found a way to profitably clean up the mercury from past gold mining and places like Grassy Narrows with extensive mercury poisoning.

This is temporary as the world adjusts to omit the US. It takes time to reorient your economy away from a consumer economy, and the US. I expect it will happen faster than many expect, as the US will no longer be a desirable supplier or consumer of your goods.
