My cousin's husband is currently doing 5 years for his role in January 6, so I have a first-hand link to it all and agree with you about the apparent dichotomy.

That said, my cousin is definitely the black sheep in the family and while I did meet her husband once, and he seemed like a perfectly nice guy, she also refuses to admit that her mother, my aunt, died of COVID as opposed to a coincidental bout of pneumonia. It's fuckin' weird and the rest of my family doesn't really know what to make of it.

I mostly feel sorry for my uncle who is in his 80s and is now having to deal with this bullshit on the part of his daughter, when he should be chilling and enjoying his last years.

Only the lower end "economy" Hondas are super reliable. Honda's higher-end models tend to use newer and less well-vetted engineering while the basic models all rely on older tried and true technology. I learned this the hard way with my 2006 Accord V6 which was a blast to drive, but like yours only lasted about 10 years before it started having serious and very expensive problems.

It's a safe bet that the problem is that much worse in the US. There's a giant marketing apparatus here that's dedicated to selling a self-image that includes giant trucks and SUVs.

Another proud member of the Lemmy Bar Association! Confidently incorrect is the best kind of incorrect.

But the article is about the federal case in DC, so if he were jailed, presumably it would be there, not NYC.

You shouldn't be surprised. It's caused by the same bad actors who are responsible for most of the ways in which the US is an outlier vs its so-called peer democracies.

Bold of you to assume that they'll hang on to their majority. I don't see how they do.

He's establishing a fact pattern. The money is largely irrelevant.

Obviously Dan Carlin's Hardcore History is hands down the greatest podcast of all time. Unfortunately, because he does so much research, his turnaround rate on episodes is one of the slowest in the business. That said, there's always his back catalog to take a deep dive into, which is fucking awesome.

If he is in fact granted immunity, it will be for the whole shebang and he won't have a choice. Jack Smith won't give him a deal simply on the basis of his word. If he wants to be a cooperating witness he'll have to supply the goods and there will be a process of investigating and fact-checking and corroborating everything he says. Basically, there will be no backing out.

Well no, it was a civil trial, so the standards of evidence are lower and the question being adjudicated was libel, not rape.

It's still pretty un-fucking-believable though.
