I watched it and thought it was such a dumb idea from the conception of the movie to make it about the 2nd American Civil War - a very political thing - but avoid politics entirely. The guy who made it is a proud centrist (centre leftist according to him) so you can see why it's Like That. Can't believe he made Ex Machina and Annihilation.

I read through Amygdalatropolis, completely fucked up book. Weird look into the mind of an incel 4chan nerd. It was hard to say if the weird horrifying trauma he had undergone was actually real, if I were to guess the main character has schizophrenia more because of the negative symptoms (he just stares at the wall for hours and hours in a later part of the book). It was a weird psychological slow burn horror that was gross and fascinating - read it in half a day. I don't know who I'd recommend it to, maybe if you had read Negative Space (Yaegers other big horror book) and enjoyed it I'd say go for it.
