You sound quite butthurt over being called a bad person. Maybe you should get a thicker skin. Have a good one.

You are just a bad person.

You can be in favor of people have a thick skin and that people shouldn't be allowed to be assholes.

It is a bit like self-defense. It is probably for the better if people knew self-defense but that is no reason to excuse violent aggressors.

Honestly, you should be ashamed of that opinion and keep it to yourself.

10gb, on a 670gb big Blockchain. Those 10gb are super important.

And again, size would an ok argument if they didn't go for uint32 instead of int32. Because they broke compatible with Unix time for no reason at that moment. Unless they wanted to min/Max every bit and then why did they start with 1970? And not 2008/2009?

It makes no sense.

Also in 2008, 10gb would have cost you around $1. Ofc, each node would have required the 10 additional gb, so each node would be $1 more. Of course, there weren't that many transaction in the chain and it wouldn't actually cost that much, but ok.

Sorry my phrasing was bad and made it confusing. Let me explain it in detail.

They correctly choose a unsigned int for the time but they based it on Unix time, and Unix time is signed. So they choose a system that would require an conversion from Unix time to Bitcoin time (or the other way around) anyway. But you don't need to be able to have a timestamp for 1970, which their timestamp system supports, because instead of counting from 2008 (the invention of Bitcoin) they count from 1970. Wasting 38 years and as you know Unix time is hitting a limit in 2038, 68 years after its start, Bitcoin time is unsigned and so it gets to 2106. 2106-1970= 136 years. And they are wasting 38 years!!! Why? You need a conversion between both after 2038 anyway. And if they really care for cheap conversion, a signed 64bit value would be much better, because after 2038, that will probably be the standard. So they chose to waste 38 years for compatibility which will break after 2038, instead of choosing compatibility after 2038 for 292 billion years.

And if size was the reason and 64bit timestamps would have been too big, just start counting from 2008 (or better 2009 when the network started) and get all those juicy 136 years instead of 98 years.

It is stupid.

I was excited for Bitcoin but the more I learned and the more the public used it, the more I hated it.

EDIT: FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH IS A BADLY PHRASE EXPLANATION, PLEASE READ MY COMMENT BELOW TO UNDERSTAND MY POINT

Bitcoins timestamp only supports dates up to 2106 because they decided on an UNSIGNED value. You don't need negative values... You know when the network starts, that is 0. Without network, no Bitcoin.

That is how bad it is engineered.

And we are not even talking proof of work or whatever. Crypto is a scam because the creators made it very obvious that they didn't really care about the project and the community is just gambling.

I was curious too. I heard that online test didn't mean shit, so I did an "official" Mensa Test and well, trust me, you don't want to join.

following is a summary of a real conversation that I witnessed:

A parent sought advice, their child would fake being sick to avoid school within the first 2 weeks of the first school year. After some conversation, the parent expresses 2 opinions, 1. that they think their child gets bullied and 2. That the child couldn't express themself well enough to communicate what the issue is. So they just assumed that their child gets bullied, because if my child would tell me that their classmates are mean, I would call that express themself quite well for that age. Then in the conversation, they talk about how they thought their child how to write and read. So they are wondering why their child doesn't want to go to school after their child was forced to sit in a chair for hours, being taught the alphabet for hours that the child already knew. I wonder 🤔 can someone here tell us why the child doesn't want to sit in a chair for hours, writing down the same letter again and again as practice for something that they are already able to do? Does someone know?

They really couldn't figure that one out.

I had an experience with a male coworker. I am a man too.

He asked me because he had a USB and he wanted to put the windows iso onto it but it didn't work. Eventually he used the media creator (or whatever it is called) but he asked if I knew what the issue was. After a lot of questions, I had figured it out.

He wanted to create a bootable USB by drag and drop the iso onto the usb and the usb was formated in fat32, so the iso was too big for the filesystem.

In that conversation, he said multiple times that he knows about this or that and that he knows computers, e.g. when I asked about the size of the usb (maybe it was a very old USB with like 4gb storage). And I could tell how he was slightly offended by some questions.

Also please note, he was "following" the Microsoft tutorial

Edit: typos fixed

LLM are so useful that the company needs to advice the government on what they could use the LLM for, after years of the public having access to the tools.

I hope I didn't make you feel like you had to justify your enjoyment of the show.

My point was, I haven't seen it but even I picked up on "woke" themes in the show and it is crazy to act like it became "woke".

[–] Tartas1995@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

I have never seen doctor who. What I know really doesn't speak to me, it seems too "random new being is the answer" to me. No hate against the show. I mean, I am fairly certain that I am basically complaining that a romance book is romantic.

That being said, doctor who seems to be quite obviously saying, be maximally tolerant and fight the tyrants and intolerant. which seems woke at this point.

When I was a child, we called it, not being a dick, but I guess it is woke now.

Just that master doesn't actually makes much sense in most git workflows.

If you understand master like you would understand the master/slave relationship in old tech, then of course, master seems to make sense until you realize that there is no slave in that sense or in name. Additional, master is rarely doing anything but having release or hot fixes being merged into it. Arguably dev is the master of the branches.

In other words, master was always a bad name. It is silly to rename it because "racism" but it is at least equally silly to act like master is a much better name than "main" or "live" or "prod" or ... Fuck, the list is long.

I don't see anyone making the claim that it is bad and for all, we know it is op's swing.

Why are you acting like someone said it is bad? Honestly, it feels like it is projection over your own shame over your preferences. But obviously I don't know and I don't claim that it is the case. Just saying, it makes that impression to me.
