I've noticed this a lot. people who defend intellectual property (already cringe) often go above and beyond what it's supposed to entail (mega cringe). They think that not just the actual creative content is protected by copyright law, but that anything conceivably closely resembling it is as well. Imagine if, for example, the guy who made Stardew Valley was sued into oblivion for "stealing Harvest Moon." Like. What? Corporations would love to establish such a Draconian understanding of creativity as a legal precedent.

I don't blame you. That was a lot of us. US dem-party-leaning media screeched about Russiagate for 6 years, wearing everyone's patience thin on anti-Russian scaremongering and creating a "boy who cried wolf" effect. All the libs I know were very smug that day.
Not to split hairs, but I wouldn't even call Fallujah "real combat experience" since that consisted of collectively punishing an entire city just because 4 Blackwater bozos got their skulls bashed in by the locals. It was basically large scale revenge carried out against a civilian population by the US military on behalf of some fucking private contractors. Whatever pretenses there were of fighting an insurgency were secondary to that. They treated every "combat aged male" as an insurgent and kidnapped all the women and children, doing mass family separation.
