Yeah I gave up reading the article pretty early on when I saw it was just going to waffle on, this was the perfect summary for the headline.
[P]erhaps traditional distinctions between left and right don’t make sense any more. The right, Varoufakis says, “thinks of capitalism as like a natural system, a bit like the atmosphere”. Whereas the left “think of themselves as people created by the universe in order to bring socialism over capitalism. I am telling you: you know what, you missed it. You missed it. Somebody killed capitalism. We have something worse.”
The early internet, he says, has given way to a privatised digital landscape in which gatekeepers “charge rent… The people we think of as capitalists are just a vassal class now. If you’re producing stuff now, you’re done. You’re finished. You cannot become the ruler of the world any more.”
If you put a > on the empty lines you make a continuous quote.
Not a bad thing to have in your life, seeing as the country is like 80% beach.
One of the best in terms of realistic space physics.
I can't stand how they always show spaceships flying directly towards things. It's like, that's not where you would be burning to get there, and if you're getting close you would be pointing the other way and burning retrograde, or else the Millenium Falcon is just going to crash straight into Yavin IV. The other one is stuff "falling out of orbit", which makes little sense. If your orbit brings you into the atmosphere there's not much you can do but ride through it and hope you don't lose too much speed to not come out of it again.
The one exception is the moon. It just so happens that if you're in low Earth orbit you burn as the moon rises in front of you, then your apoapse will stretch out to the moon for an intercept with it further along its path.
Hard to see what's what in there. I'd be interested in confirming or disproving Israel's account:
The Israeli military told AFP that its fighter jets had hit a command and control centre involved in launching rockets and mortars towards Israel.
“As a result of the IDF [Israeli army] strike, a wall of a church in the area was damaged,” it said, adding “we are aware of reports on casualties. The incident is under review.”
Witnesses said the attack damaged the facade of the church and caused an adjacent building to collapse, adding that many injured people were evacuated to hospital.
If this is true, then you would think most of the church is still standing.
I'm sure it had nothing to do with them not supporting the legislation but how strongly they were against it.
Yeah I mean I expected this to be on /c/bitcoin or something. If it was, I wouldn't have bothered commenting.
Ah right, fair enough. I hadn't realised Sync was doing that - I've been lazy and stuck with Jerboa.
The website seems to generally be the best way to browse lemmy anyway, particularly with its continued development. Apps quite often dont' conform to things lemmy does, like automatically making instance agnostic links out of /c/fediverse@lemmy.ml, or the drop down box for typing a username and sending them a mention.
That was a surprisingly good show. The best one was at the end, he buys pothole filler on Amazon then fills potholes that could have been filled by the council using tax that Amazon avoids paying. He then filled the buckets with sand so that he could return them to Amazon and get his money back, as they just use robots to check the packages by weight. His lawyer said this was textbook fraud, but then he set up a new company in a South American country (with the initials "HMRC" lol) and proposed that he could do the same thing using that company and Amazon would have no way to get back at him. Basically using Amazon's tax avoidance strategies against them. The look on his lawyer's face, with the little smiles, was priceless.
I don't think he actually sent the stuff back to Amazon mind, they probably just pretended for the show. They did have his 4 and 6 year old nieces order knives and rat poison using an Alexa, though, which were delivered without any age verification.
I feel like this doesn't really put anything into perspective except the specific things shown.
Mmmmm, tastes like banana bones!
Your average citizen would go straight to jail. Trump is just threatened.
