Because my last impression was that things hadn't changed. Why did you just downvote me, rather than actually provide a source to back up your claim? That isn't really conducive to a productive conversation. You've come at me in an inherently hostile manner, which is disrespectful.

Nonetheless, I'll do your work for you:

An extensive lead service pipe replacement effort has been underway since 2016. In early 2017, some officials asserted that the water quality had returned to acceptable levels, but in January 2019, residents and officials expressed doubt about the cleanliness of the water. There were an estimated 2,500 lead service pipes still in place as of April 2019. As of December 8, 2020, fewer than 500 service lines still needed to be inspected. As of July 16, 2021, 27,133 water service lines had been excavated and inspected, resulting in the replacement of 10,059 lead pipes. After $400 million in state and federal spending, Flint has secured a clean water source, distributed filters to all who want them, and laid modern, safe, copper pipes to nearly every home in the city. Politico declared that its water is "just as good as any city's in Michigan." However, a legacy of distrust remains, so residents often refuse to drink the tap water.

Furthermore:

As the criminal investigation progressed, more than a dozen state and local officials were indicted on a raft of charges, including obstruction of justice, lying to police, and involuntary manslaughter. While prosecutors were able to secure misdemeanor convictions against seven defendants through plea bargains, the most-serious charges were dropped in 2019.

So it is perhaps understandable that people think things were by and large brushed under the rug, and are still distrustful.

Earthworm Jim would be ashamed of you. He had far more modesty.

Friendly reminder that Flint, Michegan still doesn't have clean drinking water.

Lmfao good shout. Definitely some bias on their part also, albeit I do believe they have some sort of legal background.

Their account doesn't feel so focused on an agenda, though; while there's definitely a bias and lack of impartiality, it feels like that's being applied to content they encounter, rather than trying to dictate a message for others to swallow.

Not that I really read too much into it beyond a few randomly picked comments, but they have no posts.

They're also on kbin. Bleh.

TL;DW'es

because they built it.

"It's already known for many years that they have in the bunkers that originally was built by Israeli contractors underneath Shifa were used as a command post of the Hamas".

This is the main part of the quote from former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak. The host of this video had already been making this claim well before, however this may be the first time in recent public statements that an Israeli politician has publicly admitted the fact. The first half of the video is excellent, after that they kind of lose focus and start talking in generalised statements (not that they're necessarily wrong, they just stop talking about specific events).

Here is a video of the rhetoric surrounding the tunnels being dissected by the Majority Report with Sam Seder.

Basically 10 minutes of talking heads discussing the clip in the first video, which was already discussed for 6 minutes there. They spend the first 4 minutes leading up to actually playing the 2 minute clip, then the last 4 minutes jerking themselves off and mocking his slow speech in his 2nd language, with a dash of Trump impressionisms.

The first video is more worth watching than the 2nd, imo, but both devolve into some form of rhetoric, rather than criticising specific examples.

Talking heads belong in voodoo, not in news.

Israel also cracked down on Al Jazeera, and many Israelis are now afraid of speaking out against the government and their bloodthirsty supporters.

It's not that they're sharing reports on Israel/Gaza, it's that their account is solely dedicated to that activity. That suggests a level of organisation behind the account, as well as a bias, which is worthwhile consideration when trying to understand things objectively. They're not just some user that's posting stuff on their personal account; it isn't really grassroots, but possible astroturfing.

Also their account was created fairly recently, and around the time Hexbear was widely rejected by many instances in the federation. Lemmy.ml subsequently became a safe haven for many alts.

That isn't to say you should disregard what they're posting, it's just something to bear in mind.

Technically the truce is between Israel and Hamas, not Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

Funny that. Israel says Hamas = Palestine when they want to kill them, but then say that Palestine =/= Hamas when they're in a ceasefire.

[–] TWeaK@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago

Yeah my reading of this was that the Fatah in the West Bank are now saying "We supported Hamas all along!"

[–] TWeaK@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

All the ones in Gaza maybe? The West Bank wasn't under their control. I dunno though.

Yeah sure, but then you could also say the same about a private business. The CEO works for the business owner, whether the owner is private or public stockholders.

But the reality is that publicly traded companies end up being far more greedy and profit driven than private businesses. In particular, the greedy private businesses tend to taget an IPO, while the more conscientious ones remain private.

Maybe I should have said "it's nothing to do with maintaining profit margins" against rising costs.
