Yeah he basically said the game would never make money, so he took a relatively small lump fee up front rather than a percentage royalty. Then the game was very successful. I'm pretty sure he did alright with the sequels - by accounts CDPR were really gracious - but he still moaned a lot.

He then kept saying that the games had no influence on the success of the franchise - nevermind that hardly if any of his books were even translated until after the games, in particular after gamers explicitly asked for them to be translated.

That alone doesn't make him a wanker, but his overall attitude does. He never had anything good to say about the show (and hey, maybe he was right there in the end..) and I feel like the main reason he likes Cavill is because Cavill is always adament about staying true to the source material.

It's basically a classic case of loving the art but hating the artist.

Yeah I agree. And I don't knock her for doing it (I've even queued up one of her podcasts), I imagine she's made enough money that she's just doing it for fun and a bit of side cash in her retirement. That's no bad thing.

I still feel like this article has no real substance. If anything, it's more of an ad for her podcast than a meaningful analysis.

He's right, Cavill's Geralt was perfect. The Witcher author is still a bit of a wanker, though.

But Portugal also just set a national record for meeting the entire electricity system’s needs “without resorting to conventional thermal power generation.” This gas-free stretch started Halloween night and ran for 131 consecutive hours, about 5 days, nearly tripling Portugal’s previous record of 56 hours straight in 2021. And for 95 of those consecutive hours, Portugal exported clean electricity to Spain, because it consistently had more than it needed — again without burning gas.

That's actually really impressive. Normally when a country claims they're running everything off of renewables they're just matching renewable generation against local demand, while ignoring the fact that they are net exporters and still running significant combustible generation to send power to other countries.

Roll back to Windows XP.

There's a good chance MS will have to extend their support for Windows 10 because of that. Either that, or they'll have to make it easier for non-compliant hardware to run it.
