I am surprised by this, I assumed that with the Switch 2 out, Nintendo would be done making Switch 1 consoles and just selling what they have in stock. If that was the case, Nintendo would be cutting prices to clear out warehouses and reduce storage costs.

The fact that Nintendo is raising prices means that they expect to sell every single Switch they have and will need to bring more into the country (so they are going to be hit with rising material costs to manufacture and then tariffs).

What is cheap for one person is expensive for another. People have different levels of disposable income. For some people, a Switch is just a device to use while waiting for Steam to download patches. For others, it is the only gaming device they plan to buy this decade.

As a heterosexual cisgender white man, I have to be careful that what I say does not insult or offend those around me. Doing otherwise would be rude. Back in the day, we called that etiquette.

Now, some people might be thinking "well I am not racist/sexist/homophobic/whatever so I never have to think about what I am saying." Good for you. I am approaching 40. When I was growing up, there was no such thing as trans inclusive language. You were an ally if you did not call LGBTQ+ people "fa***t" and super inclusive if you did not use "gay" as a generic negative adjective/adverb (i.e. "The teacher gave us homework even though we also have an essay due at the end of the week? Gay!"). A few years ago, a gay friend (and here I literally mean that my friend is homosexual) called me out and made me realize how my speech patterns on sexuality were super heteronormative.

We have to periodically reexamine how we talk, especially around sensitive topics, and make sure we are not implicitly saying things we did not mean to.

I don't think I have even heard of an Oodie before. Is it just a super oversized sweater made out of some material commonly used for blankets?

That might be something my wife would like as a Christmas present, but then I will never see her body shape ever again.

It is inconvenient to leave an adapter connected to my headphones, because I want to use the same pair of headphones for my tablet, computer, and Switch, all of which have a real headphone jack. I also need to buy an extra adapter for the aux cable in the car and constantly have to debug if it is the audio cable or adapter that is going bad.

[–] TAG@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What adapter do you use? Seriously, I am open to paying more for an adapter once instead of buying cheap adapters over and over.

Splendor Duel is more complicated to teach but has more agonizing decisions (lots of times when you can make a good move that also enables good moves for your opponent or you take a bad move and deny your opponent opportunities).

For some people both of those are positive changes, but I think both are negative.

Tomatoes have been bad for us for the last couple of years. Last year, we got a good yield of cherry tomatoes but large tomatoes only started to ripen before the cold killed them. This year, we only planted cherry tomatoes and are just now getting the first few. My coworkers have confirmed that their tomatoes are also super late this year.

You are right about chives, asparagus, and berry bushes. Once those get established, you will have to work to keep them under control.

There is also a link to Steam so you can sign up to be notified about when you can give OP money.

No, you just need to come to terms with your urge to be a woman.

It is more difficult for gay men who have to accept the fact that women are not gross.

You do not get to vote. You drew a curve for question 12 when the instructions specified a line.

Were multiplatform games more expensive on Switch? I don't pay too much attention to prices, but whenever I glance at the Nintendo store something or other is on sale.

Now first party Nintendo games rarely go on sale since they sell well as it is.

Obviously! From the makers of Strategy

Major points:

  • Price increases are coming.
  • They will pause producing most games except for cheap to manufacture, card-only games.
  • For games with app adaptations, upcoming expansions will get a digital release before physical.
  • They will design, develop, and prepare future games to hit the ground running when tariffs come down.

TL;DR:

  • Joy-Cons are more comfortable for adult hands, though still not as big as other systems.
  • Mouse mode joy-cons are awkward. The buttons are small and there is no place to rest your other fingers and palm.
  • You will want to have a table if you are playing mouse-oriented games like Metroid Prime 4 and Civ 7.
  • Graphics seem better than the Steam Deck, worse than a PS4 Pro, but will improve as games are optimized.
  • Mouse aim works well in Metroid.
  • Mario Kart World is good and Knockout Tour is a fun addition to the game.

An etiquette question for the community: if you attend a game night at your friendly local game store, how much do you buy from the store?

Obviously, game store is not (just) hosting board games to give people a place to hang out and have fun. They are doing it to attract new customers and get people to buy games. If many people come but no one spends, the store might decide that they need to cancel the event and schedule more CCGs and minis. So how often do you buy a game at your local store to express your gratitude for the owners letting you use their space?

During the pandemic, I rebuilt my computer but with GPU prices being insanely inflated, I decided to limp along with my old GPU (a GeForce GTX 760). The issue is that I have a 4k monitor and my current card can barely handle my desktop, never mind a game.

I have heard that prices are coming back down to a sane level, so I am looking for part suggestions. I am not looking to play new games or ultra high settings, but I would want to at least be able to handle older/indie games, on medium settings, at a steady 30 FPS.

I am looking for a note talking app to keep work notes in. My requirements are:

  • Allow hierarchical organization of notes (like project1, project1/build, project1/configure) and easy to navigate to different notes.
  • Allow basic formatting (heading, code block).
  • Run locally
  • (Optionally) Have a table of contents for quick navigation

Obsidian looked promising and had the additional benefit of storing notes in Markdown format for easy export. Unfortunately, I would need to buy a commercial license in order to store work-related information.

MobaPad is a Switch controller and game case maker (that I have never heard of), so they should have reliable info. They said that:

  • The Switch 2 will have physical cartridges and the slot will also be able to accept Switch 1 games.
  • There will be a new button on the back of each Joy-Con, behind the triggers.
  • There will be a new button on the right Joy-Con, by the Home button.

Are there any good April Fools jokes today? For example, a few years ago Google announced a sewage based ISP (i.e. flush some fiber optic cable down the toilet and they would fish it out and connect it).

The only one I have come across is IGN article about the Nintendo Virtual Boy Pro.

TL;DR: The author asserts that Nintendo is able to be so creative because they retain employees long term rather than hiring and firing like other game developers.

Some excerpts that I found interesting:

All of the designers of the original Super Mario Bros. on the original Nintendo Entertainment System are credited designers on Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Back in 2013, the late Satoru Iwata — the former president of Nintendo — said this at a shareholder meeting:

"If we reduce the number of employees for better short-term financial results, employee morale will decrease, and I sincerely doubt employees who fear that they may be laid off will be able to develop software titles that could impress people around the world."

Has anyone ever shopped at the online store Gate Play? I have never heard of them.

I saw an out of print expansion being sold below MSRP and wanted to see if anyone knew if the site was a scam. I am going to pay by credit card and read the terms of service, but don't want to have to bother with charge backs if I am not their first victim.
