I guess site culture is an answer I can accept, if not have understanding of.

I can understand wanting to handle conflict with irreverence and humor. I can also understand being angry and hating each other. Behaving in both of those ways consecutively with very little transition is hard for me to understand.

I mean the way I see it, there was one initial incident of shitstirring, and it's just been escalating leftist infighting since then. It wasn't even originally made by db0, or in reference to hexbear specifically (but them sharing it was really the shitstirring incident).

To be blunt it seems like the magnitude of the hexbear response seems to have more to do with them being federated and given tacit permission to keep commenting about it here than anything else. There is a lot worse going on elsewhere that hexbear users don't invest this much energy in because it is less convenient to do so.

None of that really helps me understand this attitude/behavior that seems like whiplash between humor and hatred.

I'm genuinely asking, whether it's normal or bizarre this confuses me.

People often confuse the shit outta me.

You made an irreverent joke, they respond with an irreverent joke, you respond with a flat insult.

Fucking why??? Is this me not understanding people or is this fucking bizarre?

Can I ask what comm you thought this was? I don't want to be an asshole but people seem lost on lemmy not infrequently... I'm wondering what it's about.

To be clear if you hadn't realized this is the anarchist community, hosted on an instance that I believe is owned (or maybe just operated by?) by the main mod of the anarchism community. This is their "respective platform".

If the culture war is the class war then the class war is the culture war. Dealing with the culture war is often many many times more actionable. We can and should deal with both.

Hi, if you read what I said I also did not like the meme originally posted. I'm just trying to be constructive about it instead of angey and loud.

Edit: "angey" was a typo but it makes me laugh

I was there, I can form my own opinions, thanks. It was hyperbole, but that was the general level of arguments being made.

If you want left unity, it was a nonsensical way to behave. It was just more sectarianism. It does make sense as a way to behave if you just wanna argue... So thats what I assume the real intent was.

I'm not sure I really agree with your first point, I think finding a way to find allys in all leftists would be worth it, even if it has a dark history. Things can be better.

But holy shit their reaction was intense. And the idea that their arguments were in defense of left unity was pretty silly... 99% of it was just "anarchists wrong and evil", and there is wild amounts of sectarianism going on just within hexbear that I'm sure lent energy to this.

I respect how you reacted under pressure. I really respect any admin of a website that can show that much restraint when dealing with personal attacks and people you explicitly disagree with.

But yeah the lethality of leftist infighting is maybe a topic that deserves more delicate conversations than memes.

I'm not doing a bit, I'm just not trying to take this thread seriously.

Bothsides in the context of arguing about leftist unity feels like a different thing entirely, but I'm also more trying to be "neither side" if that means anything idk I'm tired.

I just want productive progress towards the end of capitalism as soon as possible. In the meantime I'm watching all the anticapitalists find reasons to hate each other forever.

I think the meme is a not-so-great way to address a dark topic.

But what I was talking about was the behavior of hexbear users in response that is also not cool.

But also I was just kinda fuckin around being entertained by the arguing and trying not to take it too seriously. I'm not here to take a strong stance. People seem to wanna make me take one but I'm gunna keep trying not to give a shit.
