Japan also has 2 incompatible power grids, with the north running on 50Hz and the south running on 60Hz

As far as I'm aware, alpine isn't designed for regular use, but as a minimal distro for container environments. Of course there's technically nothing stopping you from using it on a desktop but you're likely to be on your own in terms of support

The server should still support mods fine. You'll need to find a launcher that supports your OS, your mods and drasl-based authentication.

Texture packs will be fine, you can change them in game

Something that may influence your decision: Minecraft by default requires a Microsoft account.

Look into Drasl if you want to set up a Minecraft server without needing one

Does this mean they'll finally be adding calls to the web version?

[–] SpatchyIsOnline@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes, because if you can figure out which part of the procedure broke down leading to that switch being flipped, you can figure out ways to prevent that from happening again. That's much harder to do with just audio.

I’m curious where the security theater accusation comes from

Closed source ad-block that allows "unobtrusive" ads by default. They also ran a scheme a few years ago that replaced ads on web pages with their own and paid users tiny amounts of cryptocurrency for viewing them.

All this is marketed by them as browsing securely

Opera, like Edge and Brave is just Chrome in a trenchcoat

No character growth, no arc, just in one scene he has no trouble murdering an innocent guy WHO HELPED HIM BTW, but later refuses to take out a military target HE WAS SUPPOSED to kill.

Yeah, it's almost like the target he was about to assassinate could be the only person in the galaxy who knows how to take out the weapon he just witnessed level a city.

To say nothing of crapping all over the iconic opening of Star Wars by having Vader watch the Death Star plans fly away, personally, with his own eyes.

Those two scenes line up perfectly and imo are quite satisfying when watching the two films back to back. In what way does Rogue One's ending "crap all over" A New Hope's opening?

Either that or Danish. They love that stuff over there for some reason

I ditched most streaming services well over a year ago now, but Spotify has clung on because I have a playlist of around 2000 songs. I've set up Navidrome but now need to transfer all my music in the highest quality possible as efficiently as possible.

I tried lidarr some time ago, but it seemed to be based more around artists than individual songs and my indexer failed to find most of my library.

I've seen a couple of apps that will look at a playlist and then try to yt-dlp the song from YouTube but I'm worried about having a lower quality or different version. I've wondered if automating an "analog hole" type approach where I just pipe the audio of each song to a file and leave it playing overnight for a couple of weeks might actually be the best approach but that does seem a bit insane at this scale.

I'm a 25 yo British guy. I landed my first job as a dev in 2022 for a consultancy with a 1 year international placement, it was good but a few months after returning, the whole cohort was laid off due to corporate politics between the offices in the two countries. After 7 months of searching, I got my second job working for a small pensions fintech startup, it was fine but I didn't find it all that fulfilling. After 9 months of working there, the CEO pulled me into a meeting and said they'd made a mistake hiring me and they needed a more senior developer who could help steer the company from a business perspective too, so I was once again laid off.

That was in January, since then I've had 2 interviews, both of which have gone nowhere. The vibe of every position that's matched my CV has basically been the same sort of work- pretty mundane web dev roles and I can see myself being pulled into a cycle of mundane work then being laid off. I've wanted to be a developer for as long as I can remember, I started writing code when I was 12, studied CS throughout school so I could go to uni and do it for my degree - but now, I feel so disillusioned with the whole industry, where do I go from here? Does it get better? How do I find a job that actually feels fulfilling?

Sorry for the ramble, it's 4am and I just happened to stumble across this community while scrolling. Thought it might be worth an ask.

TLDR; been laid off twice in about 2 and a half years, feeling pretty disillusioned with everything, where do I go from here?

Indie animation has been increasing in popularity recently. It's clear there is more demand than ever for fresh stories with creators, not large corporations in control. I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of channels with the aim of getting more eyes on the smaller projects, and more people into indie animation as a whole.

To be eligible for this list, creators must be producing an original animated (2d or 3d) work of fiction not based on an existing property. Storytime animators and collections of animated skits (e.g. ASDFmovie) while great and loved by many are not the "right vibe" for this list.

How to use this list

Creators will be listed in alphabetical order by channel name followed by the name of the show in [square brackets]. The list will be updated periodically based on recommendations in the comments. All the initial channels listed here will be from YouTube, but feel free to suggest creators on other platforms.

Various notes will be provided as superscript numbers, the meanings are as follows:

  • ^1 - Only a pilot released
  • ^2 - Pilot not yet released
  • ^3 - Channel frequently uploads other content not related to their own animation

But first the big one

The biggest name in the indie animation space right now is Glitch Productions they make several shows including the immensly popular "Murder Drones" and "The Amazing Digital Circus" with at least two more series currently in the works. For this reason, and because they have also done a lot of work to promote other indie animators I feel they deserve a special mention above the list.
