It's really a shame that so many portrayals of Batman seem to really really love the Dark Knight Returns, which is absolutely fascist. I actually quite like a lot of Batman stories, but I do wish the writers would just stay the fuck away from any Frank Miller influence. Honestly never trust a Miller/ar who makes comics

Player of Games is good! I started with Consider Phlebas which I quite enjoyed but Use of Weapons stuck out to me when I was first reading them!

Very different than, say, New Vegas where all the enemies that fill the "Raider" or "Bandit" niche are named factions with actual reasons for existing and histories that make sense. Legion, Vipers, Jackals, Khans, Fiends, Powder Gangers, and so on, and each of them has their own aesthetic and gameplay touches.
Well sure, I guess 90% of the enemies could just be random jet/psycho addicts wearing scrap metal who rush your power armored ass with a pool cue while yelling "Kickass!". That's fine too I guess...

I'm certain it has a basis in a terrible reactionary reflex but my reaction to her proposed "improved" story is just immediate visceral contempt. I just can't stand the kinda recent prevalence of squeaky clean stories about a euro witch that saves the day with the power of friendship, small animals, and being gay (but in a safe marketable way). I feel like this is the absolutely wrong opinion to have but I can't shake it.
Actually was gonna shout out the 2e Mwangi Expanse & Strength of Thousands before I saw your comment lol. Love the fantasy Africa analogue (big fan of the Anadi!) and how they avoided so many of the problems D&D's fantasy Africa analogue had in its portrayals. Haven't read anything on the east Asia stuff, looks dope though
