"I'm The President" & "The Abyss" were just a couple months ago, and President esp. is a fuckin groove. Been very few days since it dropped that the Sam Wilkes bassline hasn't gone through my head at least once or twice.

I think the idea is that fae thought people were staring for some unknown startling reason before noticing that they were simply exhibiting the traditional Amerikkkan pavlovian response of staring at the nearest flag and holding your hat/hand over your heart/saluting when the anthem plays, regardless of context. There's no real consequence other than an awkward moment, usually, unless you're really unlucky and some chud is feeling very patriotic/drunk that day. Fistfights and such may start or escalate from there in the worst situations, but it's not extremely common.

Don’t recall anything like that, and I watched a lot of this show as a kid. They may have had some episodes mentioning people fleeing war/turmoil in their home countries but that’s all I can vaguely remember. They did do a 9/11 allegory episode tho
Even then they actually interacted with the environment - breaching doors, knocking over furniture, improvising cover, exploding walls. Combat environments feel so static in most games, like all the objects in your surrounds are either immutable and unbreakable, or are just there to demonstrate havok physics and go flying around like they’re filled with helium
