Speed limits are not bs. The energy of kinetic motion increases with the square of the velocity. Double the speed, quadruple the amount of energy. That matters.

Language evolves, as it always has

Especially in informal writing, tone is important, so various techniques end up developing to transmit that tone. Formal writing, which is what writing mostly used to be used for, does not use large amounts of tone

However also, for many many people smartphones are their only way to access the internet, and it's the primary device for computing in poorer nations I believe

If there's one "essential" electronic device these days, it's the smartphone.
