Oky, so I have control of the lemmy.world instance now. I think its only fair to throw it to the floor about where this community moves to next in response to that. I'll make several options. Note, before anyone brings it up Lemmy.zip is not an option because it has geoblocked the UK, and I can't access it without a VPN. So I've decided to do an advisory poll for what the next moves should be.

  1. Lemmy.World

This is obviously the largest Lemmy instance, and the community on there automatically inherits 5k subscribers (albeit old subscribers) if it goes active. But many people here and elsewhere have expressed concern about centralisation on Lemmy.world.

  1. Piefed

One of the more interesting, quick-growing and developing instances on the wider Forumverse. I set up a television community on Piefed not so long ago as I was interested in how it was developing, and the history of here can exported there (albeit posts only). Piefed itself though is a different site to Lemmy, and has many different features - and also issues with interacting with the Lemmyverse (Piefed subscribers are not picked up by Lemmy, and stickies on there don't currently work across the Fediverse, and it has basic integration with mobile apps currently). It however is under active development and I do expect a lot of these issues to be sorted.

It also though, as an instance, has some cool features: feeds, flairs and ability to subscribe to communities and comments. It's easier to keep track of things on there, but it's truly best used as a user on Piefed, not as someone from the lemmyverse.

3 Sopuli.xyz

A general social Finnish-based instance that has medium activity. I don't know much about it.

4 Discuss.Tchncs.de

A techy-based instance (although not exclusively) from Germany that has medium activity. I don't know much about it. They also run these services.

I'll make 4 replies, and users can upvote what they support.

As a result, I am beginning movements to transfer the television community to piefed, and I've put in a community request to take over the lemmy.world television instance. In the nearly three months since I made this, I've managed to cause the community to become the most active community on the instance. Since then, I did have my eye on Piefeds development and was interested in its features and did consider long-term the prospect of moving across.

Now that Lemm.ee is going to shut down, I guess my hand has been forced.

This is a TV community, and thus I post TV-related content. Harry Potter is one of the bigger ones.

Any idea why it seems to have suddenly dropped by 10k in a single month?

No,

spoilerIt's about Karen and Danny.

I mean in s02 a particular plot line is kinda revolting and it hurts that they did that. I assume you know which one I mean.

Yes, I'd like a sci-fi show just purely based on that. Purely based on Trantor (or whatever they call it in a show not based on Foundation) . A sci-fi court intrigue empire show based around the mechanics and philosophical implications of a genetic dynasty.

A warning that For All Mankind ramps up the soap opera drama in S02 quite a lot. It declines a bit again in 3 and 4 (although it's always there).

True, but the LOTR trilogy is not representative of most trilogies.

Also in this comparison we'd be talking about the first season being the length of LOTR.. There could be 3 or 4 more seasons to continue the character development.

A dozen episodes (at roughly 50 minutes an episode) a season is still about 11 hours. That's more than a movie trilogy would be in a single season. By quite a bit. It's not fair to say that's basically a movie trilogy.

Yeah, but it's a pretty serious show is what I mean.

Well to be fair, not all shows are designed to be 'fun' as such. I can't imagine something like Dark, or Silo, or Black Sails or Mr. Robot having "fun" episodes (Elliot Aldersons dream in S02 not withstanding).

One was a downvote troll who I have now banned.

Korean Dramas tend to be 12-16 in length. Apple seems to mostly hold out at 10.
