I noticed some URLs in the diagram, is that just for reference or do you use the diagram in some sort of dashboard to access your services as well?

"Cheap" is relative. Sure, they are cheap compared to many moons ago, but doesn't mean people can just splash out on new 18TB drives.

$20 AUD for 4TB is a bargain for me, would mean I could finally upgrade some of my older gear off the 1/2/3TB drives that they're rocking.

I would buy fs.com sfps as theyre way cheaper. All you need are a couple of 1gig sr sfps, dont need BiDi sfps. BiDi sfps are for tx/rx over a single core of optic fibre.

On another note, if Its only 50m, you could also potentially just run cat6 if you're not worried about electrical interference / cable's natural predators.

Way cheaper than buying SATA drives. Got a link to those? 🤣

Googling the dell part number on your PSU will give you a good start.

Back when my homelab was a simple Pentium 1, I somehow had a PC Speaker melt down while I was out of the house.

Since then, it's been a constant worry that something will catch fire while I'm not at home.

One of the reasons why I run monitoring, so I can check on the status of things.

I started with a Pentium 1 200mhz with 8MB RAM, running Apache along with PHP4 and Debian Woody. Wrote my own blog on that machine.

Started running more and more services on it, e.g. IRC server, file server, print server, DNS server. Later on, I upgraded my deskop and turned my old AMD K6 300 into my router.

Wish I had blogged about the things I had done on the blog that I wrote back then.

If you don't need much CPU grunt, you could look at the AM3 Athlons.

The Athlon II X2 250u has a 25W TDP.

You can do whatever you want, question is, what do *YOU* want to do?
