As a kid/teen I played the hell out of 4 and 5. I revisited the series for 7 and it felt like they left a lot of storytelling out. Gameplay(combat and controls) was still great though.

They're also wrong. Hollow knight actually has very flushed lore and there is nothing cyclical in the ending (even the basic one is just a correction of an imperfection).
