What's the context? For example, did they fail by snapping? Or did they fail by not holding air? Or did they melt?

Why do other world leaders put up with this shit?

Literally this. Why not come together and say that they cannot work with criminals? It looks bad on them that they still do, and it continues to give trump legitimacy.

If this helps to reduce dependency on large corporations like Walmart and Amazon, then it can't be done soon enough!

I'm willing to bet that most cyclists crashes cost the cyclist more (i.e. to fix/replace their own bike) than the damage they caused to other things. LOL

No experience with TPU.

"Yet" 😁

Which leads me to the psychological boost. You’re high on an upgrade and you push like a mf.

I was thinking that at first, but then I went out and did it again, then again. Most of these efforts are definitely not pushing it at all... I'm able to sing while breaking personal bests, and this is all in the hoods, not trying to be fast!

But I'm sure there is some psychological push, too. It's hard to control for everything when riding in the real world.

I'll see if this can be sustained over the next several months. I do have a 30km loop that I've specifically planned for benchmarking, so that would be nice to test on.

Funny thing is, he's still a rapist who is partaking in a massive cover up to conceal the fact that he was involved in Epstein's child sex trafficking empire.

We shouldn't be doing business with him, regardless of whatever "deal" Canada expects to get from this unstable idiot.

We are six months in, with 3.5 years to go. This will not end, so we should stop "negotiating" with a madman, and continue to work with the rest of the world.

That's a great overview. I don't use CO2, and likely never will, so that's a few problems out of the way. LOL

Honestly, as long as these are as reliable as the butyl tubes have been, then I'll be happy. The performance gains are a bonus. The size/weight advantages are a huge plus, too.

[–] Showroom7561@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Exactly. You don't hear about bikes crashing through buildings and store fronts. Or knocking down road signs. Or power lines. Or bus stop shelters.

Average overall speeds are up, but not by that amount since it's urban riding with lots of things bringing that number down (stop signs, red lights, pedestrians on shared paths, etc.)

But for segments where I can just go, speeds are considerably faster.

[–] Showroom7561@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don’t think so. I think they’re better but it’s a very small percentage in terms of times. Close to latex IIRC.

They are supposed to bring watt savings, which could mean faster speeds at the same effort, or the same speed with less effort. I have noticed it, especially at higher speed.

And the rotational weight savings seems to also make a difference in climbs. Easier to push up climbs, and still faster than before.

I do believe there is a solid benefit in comfort compared to typical butyl with supple tires but that’s pretty subjective.

Yes! Even with more pressure (they felt way too squishy at the same pressure I was running before), they are still more comfortable.

The only downside in my mind is they’re slightly loud. I’m very happy with them, and recently had a puncture and was happy that the patch seems to hold.

I love the sound! LOL It's different, and slightly unnerving, but pretty cool.

I'm not sure if I'll be putting TPU tubes in my old MTB, which I ride all year. If the ones in my gravel bike hold out well until November, I may just go for it!

The video rolls, almost uninterrupted, for the next 11 hours. At 6:30 a.m., corrections officers can be seen rushing across the frame. The Justice Department later disclosed that that's when Epstein's body was discovered.

Over the course of the night, the staff on duty failed to conduct the required 30-minute check-ins on Epstein while he spent the night alone in his cell.

How convenient! They missed 22 required check-ins on the night he was ~~murdered~~ died by suicide. Sure, sure, sure.

If money was no object, this would be the bike I'd throw my wallet at!

Not only does the tandem setup look better than a traditional tandem, but to be able to convert it into a front-loading cargo bike is... WOW!

This bike is also Made in Germany.

So, my Ninebot Max e-scooter has a "loud" front wheel, and when I spin it, the bearing sounds "dry".

I have replacement bearings, but then I noticed this:

When I spin the wheel by hand, it will keep spinning SUPER SMOOTHLY and... no joke... can keep spinning for over 10 minutes! To me, that sounds amazing, and now I'd rather not change the bearings.

Does this make sense? I would imagine the same can happen on a bike wheel.

Should I just leave it? LOL

"That’s why we manufacture all of our products here in Canada, collaborating with local partners who share our values, from R&D to the printing of our labels."

I wax my chains, so I don't use their lube, but their bike cleaning products are fantastic!

I've been to a few bike shops that don't have any bike racks outside. It's bizarre. Like, you have to bring your bike in the shop just to pick something up or to have a look around.

I'm not even talking about one place that does this, I have at least three in the area where there are no bike racks at all.

Is this normal? Why???

I've seen several of these around, on roads. And to be honest, if I had to replace my car, it might be for one of these!

But what the hell? They are ONLY allowed on sidewalks, which IMO, they really shouldn't be. And are NOT allowed on roads because they are classified as "pedestrians"?

We need new laws to accomodate and encourage the adoption of "mini cars" as car alternatives within urban and sububan travel..

(Link is in the title)

Registration ends tomorrow (June 19th). It's a great event that takes you though many of Ajax' cycle-friendly trails and communities.

Selling price approx. $12,500 Canadian.

Honestly, not bad when you consider the utility. Way cheaper than a second car, or as a replacement for a car that's rarely used.

I just worry that as these e-bikes get more complex, it just serves as an additional barrier for people.

It might be more effective for the sign to read "4 points + $280 fine" instead of "80km/h" when you're in a 40km/h zone, no?

I just filed a complaint with one of the local Regions about the horrific mess of debris in their marked, on-street bike lanes.

I even specifically asked if street sweepers are cleaning the bike lanes, or if they are just using them to dump road debris on.

I was told that because these roads are busy, debris ends up in the bike lanes. Fine, I can accept that.

Except...

The same and similar stretches of road without bike lanes do NOT have this debris on it. It's quite literally only the bike lanes that do.

For example:

Bike lanes:

And this just after the bike lane ends:

This same example came up closer to the urban population:

Leading up to the bike lanes:

Bike lane is just ahead:

Road debris starts as soon as the bike lane starts, and gets worse as you continue.

And magically disappear once the bike lane is no longer on the road:

I've been on that route three times in the last year, and the conditions of the bike lanes has been exactly the same.

Just to point out, I've ridden on plenty of on-street bike lanes, as well as roads with urban and rural paved shoulders in other areas, and they don't exhibit this pattern of debris physics.

Yes, some places have bad bike lanes, but their shoulders are also a mess. This just doesn't seem to be the case here.

Was I just gaslit, bad luck, or does this seem like a massive coincidence spanning dozens of kilometres?
