I ALREADY DO! Humph! 😏

Honestly, though. Waxing my chains has been the single best decision I've made with regards to my bikes. I absolutely lothed dirty chains, and the shit I needed to do in order to keep them "clean". The solvents, ultrasonic cleaner, endless wiping after rides, switching to "clean" lubes... I just had enough.

I should tell you about the time when I visited the crash site, where a 13-year-old girl who was riding her bike through a crossride was killed by a driver who basically didn't bother to stop.

A lady, with an empty stroller, was looting the memorial set up for the girl, stealing dolls and flowers as if it was a shopping spree.

Not only did I order her to stop, but after calling the police, I led them to her, and then made sure she returned everything.

This remains one of the lowest points in my faith in humanity, and it truly was one of the most despicable acts I've witnessed in person.

Here's a photo, because not even I would believe an internet stranger speaking of such depravity:

Have you taken very verbose logs to see if there’s differences that stand out?

Nope, but that could be a next step. I was hoping for an easy fix (like I did something wrong in the settings).

Realistically, if this can't be solved by using the built-in setting options, then it's not worth the trouble to "fix" anything. It still works, so I'm glad to have the option.

To match it completely I think you need to disregard the presets and set everything yourself, like CRF and everything.

Is there a way to disable the preset completely? There's no "none" option, just "speed, balanced, and quality", but I set everything else up manually.

LOL. When I got my 90s MTB, I purposely loosened all the spokes, then trued it using the zip tie method. It went from flopping around like a taco, to something quite rideable until I replaced the wheel (the rims were worn at that point).

But I do have several times, and will put off maintenance if it's not convenient. A truing stand would be more convenient, and would allow me to do a better job in less time.

It's time for a new tool! 😂

[–] Showroom7561@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago (13 children)

And I had no idea those existed and they would likely make my life much better!

I've known they've existed for a while, but use the "zip tie" method to true wheels, and it's just getting to be more of a PITA.

I'm a fan of using dedicated tools, and don't mind the investment. But not a $500+ investment for something I might do a few times a year! LOL

Oh, I have several bike repair stands. But I'm looking for a wheel truing stand 😁

Basically saving space. The dashcam I use records in h264, and I've been saving space (50%) by converting them to h265 (through my Samsung phone). Handbrake is far more convenient for these batch conversions.

Same version of Handbrake (1.9.2), but I'm not even sure how to check for the ffmpeg version on my NAS, or what Handbrake is using. The system panel in the Handbrake info window doesn't list ffmpeg at all.

Thanks for the ideas.

GPU does seem to be passed onto the docker container, not only because of the dramatic increase in speed, but also because the CPU isn't being maxed out like it was before adding the GPU hardware line.

Volumes are bind mounts.

I experimented with permissions and user groups, and noticed no difference to the behaviour in render output.

For these videos, quality isn't super important, but file size is. I spent most of yesterday tweaking settings on my local Handbrake install to get the right balance. So, I assumed transferring the settings over would give the same results.

One of these days I’d like to get a Brompton C-line but they’re stupid expensive.

It really would be nice if Brompton came out with a sub-$1000 bike. Not only would they reclaim market share in this space, but those riders would very likely upgrade to the more expensive models down the line.

Do Republicans have separate washrooms for men and women in their homes?

I've tried a few jellyfin plugins that are supposed to sync metadata and thumbnails from tube archivist, but it's just not working right.

I can see some thumbnails, but then the titles are just random gibberish. Or the titles somewhat work, but no thumbnails.

Any secret I'm missing?

Both are running in docker containers on a synology nas.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio (April 26, 2024) — In the wake of the most recent tragedy involving a fatal collision between a Tesla vehicle in autopilot mode and a motorcyclist in Washington state, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) once again urges the Department of Transportation (DOT) to strengthen Automated Driving System (ADS) regulations.

“Many autonomous vehicles on the road today have not been proven to detect all other road users in all situations before they have been allowed to be used on the road,” Dingman added. “Motorcyclists should not be used as guinea pigs for autonomous vehicle manufacturers. The continued allowance of untested autonomous vehicles on our nation’s roadways is unacceptable. The time for action is now!”

To add to that, you should see how these "accident avoidance systems" plow through dummies during tests. You'd have to have been paid off to allow these vehicles on public roads!

So, I've had a Raspberry Pi 4 sitting brand new in a box for a few years, and decided to install BirdNetPi on it yesterday.

It's working like a champ, but because BirdNetPi needed a legacy version of Raspian, it's got old software on it.

Is there any way to update the software (i.e. RealVNC) without updating the OS? There is no built-in software updater, and I seem to very easily break Linux every time I make an attempt to use it. LOL

I can see far too many privacy issues with copy and pasting text into a website, and/or registering an account which will keep a history of the text checked.

Are there any services available that are noted for being private?

For context, I'm using uBlacklist to manually block website that use AI generated content.

This happened earlier this week (April 8th). A ghost bike procession is being held on April 15th.

Durham Police yesterday said a 33-year-old male, who was out on parole for manslaughter and kidnapping, is facing charges after a violent assault on his girlfriend.

The accused in this matter hid in his girlfriend’s vehicle without her knowledge and when she returned to the vehicle, he proceeded to assault her by choking.

The accused, who had an ankle monitoring bracelet on, removed it as he fled the area, said police.

A 33-year-old male from Oshawa is charged with: Assault (Spousal), Choking, Fail to Comply with Release Order, Mischief and Possession Contrary to Prohibition Order.

At what point should the judge be responsible for putting someone like that out on parole? The justice system is supposed to work for the victim.

And he shouldn't be charged with "choking", but attempted murder. Why are we so soft on criminals?

Should I also tip the delivery driver, and the person who made the product?

The literal paperwork involved with not getting paperwork is a little much these days!

Keep your behind dry and clean, folks!

The United States seems to always have disproportionately high rates of things that kill people compared to other developed nations. 🤔

Hey guys. I'm curious about this type of scenario, because I see two ways of approaching it and neither seems like the best way.

Legend for the photo: MUP = multiuse path; SW = sidewalk; BL = bike lane (sharrows, but it turns to a bike lane).

Assuming you were on the MUP going north, and wanted to turn onto the bike lane heading west.

What's the best/safest/legal way to do this?

A. Use the crosswalk (not a crossride, so you'd need to get off your bike and walk) and position yourself on the lane facing west?

B. Turn from the MUP straight into the bike lane on a green? This would mean going across two lanes.

C. Position on the left turn lane of the road, and make the left turn from that lane? Cars turning right don't make this easy or safe.

For context, there is a bus route going south to north, and this particular road has a lot of speeders. What I'd think would be safe, usually isn't.

If this were an intersection with cyclists in mind, it would have a large green box for cyclists to move into to make the turn safely. In that case, I'd think C would be the most ideal. But without that, what's the next best?

I tend to choose A at this particular intersection, but that's nearly gotten me run over by people turning left from the north side.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Thank you for all the input, guys. I will stick with "A" (which is a Copenhagen left turn), and will suggest to my city to add a proper green painted bike box at this intersection for cyclists to safely make these turns.
