You think the company doesn't have the ability to curate the notes allowed by the community or to farm their own? It's always possible for a site owner to shape the messages on the site, even if it comes to a point of direct database manipulation.

If a jury comes to a conclusion then the defendant is not guilty then it's game over. A mistrial had to be called before deliberation happen, and that would have to have some material misconduct during the trial, not just 'I think we gonna lose'. A guilty verdict could be appealed but that appeal is only to decide if the case was conducted fairly (for a retrial request) or to assess the validity of a sentence.

Basing it off some time I did a lot of legal/court adjacent work for a few years, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

You can bet there was some more tolerance for it when there was some guilt for office workers staying at home while service roles had to stay on site during the height of covid.

The fact that so many point of sale make it a default thing to put it directly out there for someone to tip before any service is done and with that decision in view of everyone around doesn't sit well either

When George Floyd was murdered they had a battalion n of police outside of the killer's house to protect him. Why can't they do the same here using the national guard if needed?

So something similar to some of the Catholic practices about meat during lent, not a true law, but a rule dictated by the church. It just happens that if the church and state are functionally one entity, as is my impression for a lot of countries in that region, then it may as well be considered law.

I'm guessing it might be thought of like when people say 'ATM machine'. If Sharia where to be translated as 'religious law' then it would stand to reason that Sharia law could be translated as 'religious law law'.

Image proxy is what I suspect you mean. The problem with that from an instance admin is that on the network level it would them show their instance accessing whatever content their users request which then puts the owner at risk, so I believe most never enabled it. If an owner set up an instance with a particularly strong opsec game though where their outbound connections where routed over a VPN or TOR that could be useful to censored countries. Might make for an interesting project...

I blame DEI for making the fragile minded folks associated with maga have such terrible distressing thoughts about not being the single group of people who matter. Reality bubbles are such delicate things after all.
