It would help the scam if you didn't"t try to pose as a Mastodon bot to a Lemmy user.

Indeed, politicians do love to claim power and control wherever they can and kids are a handy excuse often enough.

As to the parents, at least in the USA my take is that so many are overwhelmed with how to handle it that if you get someone in power saying "we will make the internet safe for you, no effort needed" they jump all over it.

I'm in my 40's and none of the things out there on the web that kids are doing even existed when I was their age, so there are plenty of people who are really the first generation to be sorting out how to deal with this stuff for our kids. Given my work I'm better equiped than most, but it's still possible to get caught off guard

We have proxies, we have DNS filters, we have pre configured software packages you can install with a few clicks. Net filtering is not all that difficult.

We also have a planet full of people throwing up their hands and passing off responsibility for guiding and watching their kids to 'someone else'.

It takes effort people, and discussions that can be difficult, and you might need to learn a tech trick or two, but it's not impossible. Stop screwing everyone over because you want big brother to take care of the hard work for you.

Auto correct replaces A with I now?

Show em how it's done there Donnie, post up some scores, and I mean the real ones not the 'healthiest president ever' ones.

Imbalance would be a better phrasing, yeah. More meant people scarf down an awful lot of sugars and fats compared to lean meats or dairy.

I've commonly heard around 1 gram / kg, which can still be a trick for someone who's on the larger side. I would be a bit over 100 kg so with most of those bars or shakes being around 20g that adds up to a good half dozen or the real food equivalent.

It's probably the most lacking of the 3 majors though, between fast food and processed pre-pack stuff.

Still, it seems to have held on a lot longer than the period where everything needed to announce itself as gluten free.

Long running troll, posts a bunch of hyper-capitalist, winner take all, libertarian bullshit. I'd almost call it a bit.

None of that amature level pain here.

Project Prism, supposedly shut down but realistically a safe bet the painted the door and said it's totally not them any more.

Actually yours has a whole society to uproot and coerce the labor of in order to have your free care.

But sure, calling unhealthy people making bad choices a bad thing is bigotry. Notably America has quite the reputation for being fat, we must all be cursed with some poor genetics or medical conditions that the rest of the world don't have.

You called the concept of them and similar others costing the rest of society money due to increased insurance and healthcare costs moronic. I provided how they do so, you haven't addressed that at all other than to propose that doctors and medical suppliers should work for free.

Hey all,

So I'm looking to take an active step here to understand better some things that my straight/white/cis/middle-aged male brain has had a tough time wrapping itself around, particularly in the gender identity front.

I'm working from the understanding of physical sex as the bio-bits and the expressed identity as being separate things, so that part is easy enough.

What's confusing to me though is like this. If we take gender as being an expression of your persona, a set of traits that define one as male, female, or some combination of both then what function does a title/pronoun serve? To assume that some things are masculine or feminine traits seems to put unneeded rigidity to things.

We've had men or women who enjoy things traditionally associated with the other gender for as long as there have been people I expect. If that's the case then what purpose does the need for a gender title serve?

I'll admit personally questioning some things like fairness in cis/trans integrated sports, but that's outside what I'm asking here. Some things like bathroom laws are just society needing to get over itself in thinking our personal parts are all that special.

Certainly not trying to stir up any fights, just trying to get some input from people that have a different life experience than myself. Is it really as simple as a preferred title?

Edit: Just wanted to take a second to thank all the people here who took the time to write some truly extensive thoughts and explanations, even getting into some full on citation-laden studies into neurology that'll give me plenty to digest. You all have shown a great deal of patience with me updating some thinking from the bio/social teachings of 20+ years back. 🙂
