That's how they get you!
Step one (and the easiest thing for me to do) is to write things like this and try to let people know I’m with them.
Step one is listening and being willing to deal with the discomfort that might come with that. Not being the easiest thing for you to do is for you to resolve with yourself. But step one will always be to set your ego aside and listen.
but it’s a start.
That's for you to prove, the fight rages on with or without you.
I kid, but
Maybe don't if you're going to perpetuate exactly the same bullshit they are?
Whale was like "if not food, why food shaped?" 😂
Seriously though, that must have been terrifying..
You could start by not centring yourself and making a post about what a good ally you think you are and instead make one centring the people you say you're here to support ("I love you, solidarity" done), one simply asking how you can help, or even better, be a good ally and invest your own time, energy, and emotional labour in searching out and consuming some of the hundreds if not thousands of articles/videos/podcasts/blogs/communities that already exist out there on the subject.
You might feel helpless, but you have significantly more privilege than most people here, use it.
Don't say.
Do.
Individual liberals are often actually doing things, like campaigning for ballot measures and such
So supporting the status quo.
they are simply optimistic about a system that is rigged against them. It’s kinda hard to blame them for that.
No they actively support an oppressive system, and whenever the people being oppressed by said system tell them so they refuse to change anything about their behaviour, making them actively complicit.
No one is saying they are responsible for the system existing, but they categorically can and should be held accountable for their actions in participating in and upholding it, and I absolutely blame them for their part, and those making excuses for them, for theirs.
Their, and your, complacency is complicity.
It was just a matter of time (and don't be mistaken, he will act on it), but the general population sadly won't give a fuck (that's the only purpose we serve those in power, always have - a litmus test to see how comfortable the general population is with inflicting suffering on to and even exterminating groups of people), if anything a lot more than just maga people will be cheering this shit on, or at the very least "passively" supporting it (even if they don't think they are, saying shit like "stupid people shouldn't breed"* is the same eugenicist shit).
The usage of IQ as a measure of anything at all is in itself deeply eugenicist (so ableist, but also racist, classist, and sexist), but try telling people that and see how quickly you get dogpiled by so so many desperate to cling on to the sense of superiority an arbitrary number (which often came from an online quiz, though tbf, those are about as valid as a professionally administered one) gives them. It's so problematic on so many levels, and serves no purpose but to divide and oppress.
I agree, it really is fucking scary..
E: *like several variations in the replies to this very post, people seriously need to do better.
People are still questioning why??
Propaganda machine be propaganda machining.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In 4 years (hopefully), we’ll have someone else in charge, and I am going to be right here, ready to pick up where things left off.
I know you mean well, but if you genuinely care, you're going to have to do better than that at this point. "Where things left off" was already bad for a lot of people, and even if society at large does get back there, many of us won't make it that long.
Same, I'd read it quite a while back and it was an eye opener, and "we want accomplices not allies" stuck with me, a few interactions I'd had recently made me want to post it lol
It's a shame that those who need to read it most won't, or will but find ways to distance themselves (like "oh, well this is about being an ally to Indigenous people so it doesn't apply to me, someone who claims to be any ally to [insert other marginalised group here]") as if these principals can't or shouldn't be applied universally and across the board..
In any case, definitely a must read.
