Thank fuck for miniature, and no doubt temporary, fucking mercies.

The human-run system is already designed to reject as many claims as possible and make it as absolutely difficult as possible for those they don't flat out reject to get even the lowest rate (again, the default, which, like a rejection, you then have to appeal to get what you're really entitled to), yet somehow AI would have managed to make it worse.

Don't think for a second this'll stop them from trying again, or making the existing system worse still in other ways.

After all, we are the real leeches on the government tax pot that they need to eliminate, not their fellow landlords and capitalists sat next to them on the parliament bench. 🙄

I grew up with one of the 9000 who survived those death marches, being a kind of foster-gran to me (some of my biological, and step, grandparents survived their own ordeals, but not in Auschwitz. Either way, it is not a surprise that none of them were really up for the job of being loving cuddly grandparents, or raising loving cuddly parents to be, and needed to share the task with others).

She was only 12 at the time, and watched her mother, who she was separated from when they arrived at the camp and never expected to see again, die on the side of a snowy road. She herself only survived that long because the Nazis found her attractive enough to keep around and abuse.

Actually visiting the place made me physically ill, and it still pops up in my nightmares.

On a less personal note, there are of course a lot of worthwhile and important documentaries to watch about the holocaust and Auschwitz in particular, do, but if you only watch one, I think The US and the Holocaust is the most relevant to our times that I have seen in a very very long time, and if it were up to me it would be compulsory viewing for everyone as soon as they are old enough to understand.

Another that comes to mind is Night Will Fall which contains footage from the much harder to find German Concentration Camps Factual Survey that was made during and immediately after liberation, but kept hidden away for decades. (E: if you're in the UK and want to watch it, I've just seen that Night Will Fall is on tonight at midnight on ch4)

Those who refuse to learn from history are deemed to repeat it, which is precisely why we're all only taught a whitewashed version of it.

Ok, thanks.

Though you did mention that an admin removed it, how can you tell?

Na, your examples are just more of the road to fascism.

Also trying to compare the legitimate reactions of marginalised people to our lives being put under threat, that get framed by those with more privilege as an overreaction, to an actual overreaction by those with privilege to no threat whatsoever other than to that privilege is fucking gross and at best shows a complete misunderstanding of the gaslighting we face as marginalised people. At worst, it is actively participating in said gaslighting.

That's truly awful, I'm sorry you're having to find out who your friends and even family really are, and mostly, that they're getting you to doubt yourself so deeply.

Trust your gut. These people are telling you who they are, listen. Don't put your life in their hands.

I know it sounds impossible, or at least very difficult, but try and find or create a community of people who don't do that shit to you, who share your fears, or at the very least don't prioritise their own feelings and dismiss yours because they personally don't experience that kind of oppression and can see how absolutely terrifying the world is for marginalised people right now, and who are willing and ready to act in defence of one another and marginalised people at large.

You are not alone, and your fears are valid and well founded

There are many others like you out there, but they're probably just as scared as you are to reach out because they're getting the same shit from the privileged people in their lives, and are also doubting themselves and thinking they're alone too.

This is the time to find our people, support each other, build community, and resist. It is our only option.

Solidarity from the UK, stay safe friend.

There are several datahoarders communities that I'm sure would also appreciate this if not want to chip in:

Thank you! 😂

E: I even said how I can see it being useful in some applications, but fuck, if I'm looking at the date it's almost certainly to see what day it is today, what day (and maybe month) an appointment is, what day some food is going off, stuff like that. I know what month and year it is right now, and if I want to know the time, I look at a clock, not a calendar. If they love extra and often unnecessary information so much they're free to use whatever format they want, but I'm good, and so are many others, and they just need to learn to be ok with that lmao

[–] ShareMySims@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

So it's just adding the American format (which categorically does not demonstrate how a month and day can still be conveyed in order of significance, but literally the opposite) in to the mix and not providing any help or making things any simpler lol

Thanks for explaining, but if the person who introduced the 1-26 concept in to the conversation (and could have easily just said "MM/DD" to make their point significantly clearer), or the other person with their lecture are actually trying to change my, or anyone else's mind, or make their personal preference more appealing to others, this (making things more complicated, when they are already perfectly straightforward, just not how they like it) isn't the fucking way to do it lmmfao

[–] ShareMySims@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 6 months ago

don’t argue for your point with arguments that can easily be debunked.

I literally said I don't know what a thing means (and now that you've explained, it's a useless instruction to give me, since all it does is add extra steps for those of us already perfectly happy with the European format lmfao), and made no assertion beyond my personal preference, kindly get off your fucking high horse.

You can do 1-26

I don't know what this means, also I don't have to adhere to anything, the European format works perfectly well for me, so.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] ShareMySims@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 6 months ago (18 children)

Maybe in programming or technical documentation, but no, when I check the date I want to know the day and the month, beyond that, it's all unnecessary information for everyday use, and we have it right in Europe.

You can't change my mind. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
