my dull explanation is that the debate was just so bad that it was undeniable to everyone watching that there's something horrifically wrong with biden's brain. then stories and speculations about biden's mental decline immediately starting gaining clicks and views, and the media, in their chase for profit, responded in turn

i also think some of the journalist and media people who threw their weight behind the 'biden has to go' camp are now personally miffed that biden is refusing to step down. like it's sorta become an ego/reputational thing for them too

According to White House visitor logs reviewed by the New York Post, Dr Kevin Cannard, a Parkinson’s disease expert at Walter Reed medical center, met with Dr Kevin O’Connor, a doctor of osteopathic medicine who has treated the president for years.

The visit took place at the White House residence clinic on 17 January. Cannard has visited the White House house eight times since August 2023. On seven of those visits, most recently in late March, he met with Megan Nasworthy, a liaison between Walter Reed and the White House.

IDF Ordered Hannibal Directive on October 7 to Prevent Hamas Taking Soldiers Captive (Haaretz, archived link)

'There was crazy hysteria, and decisions started being made without verified information': Documents and testimonies obtained by Haaretz reveal the Hannibal operational order, which directs the use of force to prevent soldiers being taken into captivity, was employed at three army facilities infiltrated by Hamas, potentially endangering civilians as well

[Biden] “This is a guy who told us to put bleach in our arms to deal with Covid, with a million — over a million people died. This is a guy who talks about wanting to get rid of the health care provision we put in place. This is a guy who wants to give the power back to Big Pharma to be able to charge exorbitant prices for drugs.”

This is exaggerated. Mr. Trump’s comments, in April 2020, about the efficacy of disinfectants and light as treatments for the coronavirus sparked uproar and confusion. He did not instruct people to inject bleach, but suggested that doing so with a disinfectant was an “interesting” concept to test out.

they're "fact checking" biden like it's 2019 and his name is bernie sanders

[Quoting Biden] “I’m the guy that shut Putin down. No one thought could happen.”

This needs context. Mr. Biden’s campaign said he was referring to reports that Russian President Vladimir V. Putin had hoped for and failed to achieve a quick and decisive victory in Ukraine and that Russia’s military had suffered heavy losses. That, the campaign said, was possible in part because of Mr. Biden’s marshaling of allies and aid.

Still, Mr. Putin’s war in Ukraine continues two years later. And despite heavy sanctions imposed by the United States and other Western countries, its economy continues to grow. The World Bank recently upgraded Russia from a upper-middle-income country to a high-income one.

i can't believe this is coming from the NYT lmao

China to set annual salary cap on finance sector amid common prosperity push, sources say (SCMP, 4 Jul)

China plans to cap the annual salaries of financial workers at around 3 million yuan (US$412,460), as the government doubles down on its campaign to eradicate extravagance and hedonism from the industry and narrow the wealth gap amid a persistent downturn in economic growth, according to people familiar with the matter.

The limit will be applied to all state-backed brokerages, mutual fund firms and banks, except financial institutions backed by private investors, the sources said, adding that the information is not meant to be made public. matter.

The measure will be applied retroactively, meaning those who earned more than 3 million yuan over the past few years will probably have to return the excess money to their companies, the sources said.

This issue of the international edition of Wenhua Zongheng (文化纵横) explores the widely debated topic of de-dollarisation. The articles examine the US dollar’s hegemonic status in the international economic order, efforts across the Global South to develop alternatives, and the role of the BRICS in this process.

We are herbivores in a world of carnivores. It is a power politics world, yet we still have in mind that through trade and preaching the rule of law we can have influence on the world. We must still preach the rule of law but we have to be aware there are some leaders that need to be dealt with in a different way.”

Borrell predicted the war in Ukraine, and the eventual outcome, would be one of the three driving forces creating a new world order, alongside competition between China and the US, and the rise of the global south.

He admitted he was no fan of the term “global south” to describe such a heterogeneous group of people but that an entity existed that “consider themselves part of an alternative to the western models”. He said it was critical to “try to avoid the alliance of China plus Russia, plus parts of the global south.

“The people of the global south want to be recognised because 40, 50 years ago, when the world order was built, some of these countries did not exist. Either they were colonies or so poor they did not have a vote.

“So now they are independent countries and they have been growing economically, demographically, and they want to have a say.”

He added: “Understandably these countries are hedging. One day they look at Russia , another at China. At the UN they vote against the war in Ukraine but many of them do not have this feeling of moral indignation that we have.”

In a new low of diplomacy, the Ukrainian advisor to the President of the war-hit country made bizarre claims about India and China in an interview that came days after the successful organization of the G20 summit in Delhi. Mykhailo Podolyak said, “What’s wrong with India, China, and so forth? The problem is that they are not analyzing the consequences of their steps, these countries have weak intellectual potential, unfortunately.”

Mykhailo Podolyak further said, “Yes, they invest in science. Yes, India has launched a lunar rover presently and is now trekking on the surface of the Moon, but that does not indicate that this country fully comprehends what the modern world is about.”

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Tuesday said he is directing three House committees to open an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden in an effort to seek bank records and other documents from the president and his son Hunter Biden.
