Working my way through the Lost Fleet series. It's mediocre, but in an entertaining way.

This is an anti-gift.

I'll buy that for a dollar.

I suppose I can see those definitions.

I would still not call slavery terrorism, if only because terrorism is not slavery. Terrorism is a tool used by people who promote slavery.

Slavery uses terrorism, as I mentioned, yes. But the only thing it's trying to accomplish is itself.

Terrorism is an effort to make someone else do something.

“The goal of slavery was slavery” is circular logic.

I'm not sure how better to make my point, but I can't really disagree with you. Let me try again.

"Terrorism" is using ineffective tactics to cause a disproportionate response in your enemy, with the goal that they do something beneficial to you.

Slavery is not that. Slavery is not trying to achieve a separate goal. It's a system of oppression. Like all such systems, the only thing it is trying to accomplish is self-sustainability.

I agree with you, but no matter has good your training and equipment, you're taking the chance every time.

As someone pointed out elsewhere in this thread, the same is true of driving to work, which makes OP's position rather questionable.

This is the worst headline I've read all day.

This meme fails to understand terrorism. There is no meaningful argument that John Brown was not a terrorist, at least in some of his actions. But that doesn't mean he was wrong, just that he worked with the tools he had.

Slavery was not terrorism, because it was not trying to achieve anything, it was itself the desired result.

Some of the supporters of slavery engaged in terrorism, at least as much as John Brown ever did.

I don't think he has any beef with firemen, but if your job is to deliberately expose yourself to an incredibly dangerous situation on the regular, death is kind of an expected outcome.

I agree, as far as that goes, but I still feel sorry for them.

I'm on board.

Naked Prisoners (startrek.website)

Is there an easier way to get clothing for a prisoner than drafting a pawn and having them strip in the cell before walking naked back to the cloths storage?

Has anyone here participated in the Fairborn Community Gardens in the past? I'm trying to get an idea of what the "normal" approach is, and what the general expectations are.

New to this whole Lemmy platform, but I'm liking it.

One problem I'm having is auto-play videos when I open some discussions. Not in the comments, but the post itself starts playing.

I'll skip my usual rant about what I think should be done to whoever decided to make that a feature, and just ask how to turn it off. I have "auto expand media" unchecked in my lemmy settings.

I appreciate any advice.
