This concept of training/learning has persisted because it's a good analogy of what we are trying to do with these statistical models, even if they aren't strictly neural networks.
LLMs are indeed neural networks.

You gave your opinion and he did as well. I agree with becool, Meta has proven themselves to be an extremely unethical and untrustworthy company throughout the years. I believe it's in the best interest of the fediverse for instances to distance themselves from Meta. That said, there's nothing stopping you from using multiple platforms, or working to foster the type of community and culture you want here.
This is still the very early days of the fediverse and it will no doubt change a lot in the coming months and years. If there were things you liked about reddit then try to bring that culture here and you might attract more like minded people.
Is it really necessary to post or comment to be considered active? I would think reading a single thread would be sufficient. There's plenty of active lurkers that browse the forum that never post.
I think it would be great if we had digital signatures for videos. Sort of like https, or a signed exe on windows. A video could be cryptographically signed at the time of creation. There could be some level of confidence then that if you're watching a signed video it's an unadulterated original copy created by say, Peter's iphone on July 5, 2023 at 11 pm.
I wouldn't be surprised if the botched execution of Mary Queen of Scots was the motivation for the guillotine: https://allthatsinteresting.com/mary-queen-of-scots-execution
The sun is in a different direction than Mars though. Both require escaping Earth orbit and and entering solar orbit. From there, to get to Mars you need to raise your orbit relative to the Earth. To get to the sun you need to lower your orbit relative to the earth.
You don't need that many active users for a rich and engaging community. I also don't believe kbin will or should replace reddit. But it's a great alternative for those that don't like the way things are going on reddit.
The colosseum is almost 2000 years old, it's not getting eroded. At least not on a human time scale. Most of the damage present occurred during the Renaissance when people harvested marble from it for other stonework.
Speaking from personal experience, it was obvious NFTs would go nowhere and large language models would succeed. They've both been hyped by the public, but one of them has the utility to back up the hype and the other doesn't.
I use chat gpt all the time. I use it at work, i use it for looking up recipes, I use it to help with DIY projects around the house, and I use it to just get more information about a niche topic. The results are catered specifically to me and my question, and they're better than a search engine. This tech is only going to get more common from here.
At the end of the day you can't 100% trust anything you see on the internet. You have to think critically about the answers it gives you and cross reference it against other sources. No different than when evaluating search results, which can also be wrong. But it's a great starting point.
It's a lot easier to get a thorough and concise answer from chat gpt and double check it than it is to wade through a search engine.
It's the same reason much of our knowledge of some ancient European and African cultures comes from the romans: they were the first, and in many cases only society to save written accounts of those cultures. By taking a written account of something and publishing that account, it becomes available to the rest of humanity. That said, it is still important to honor the original native names and note that something was previously known by the natives of the area prior to its formal documentation.
