I think you are missing my point. The "pretending" device connects to router, while the "original" device connects to the pretending device. The 2 interfaces that share the same MAC don't connect to the same network.

The user also conncets to the pretending device. to hide their access to the router.

What I would personally do is buy a device that can connected to wifi and hotspot at the same time. This can be a raspberry pi or a wifi router range extender.

I would set the name and MAC address to match a device that is constantly connected, a smart TV or Alexa maybe.

Then I would use this device connect to the internet.

Everything works as usual and for those who monitor the network via Router settings, nothing looks different.

Have fun pulling risky moves and maybe also learn something out of it.

I just try to follow my passion, which in 70℅ is computers. I "waste" plenty of time with activities that are not productive, but when the obsession hits, I'll spend weeks in coding or leaning a new skill. Personal development involves time you just fool around with your hobby.

Selling bad products to customers is about finding just the right amount of inconvenience for the customer. You never know what information about you can be used by an AI model to pinpoint your threshold. I would like not to be used in a borderline consumer herding.

And risk not spending enough time in other places that lead my life in my current state. People in my past (deceased or not) are very important but so are the ones in my present. I can't sacrifice one for the other.

what other reasons are for going back in time? Relationship? That doesn't depend on one critical point. Same with personal development.

To answer the "big question", "Why Android even allows this" I asume you are taking about the Android versions that are coded to allow this. In this case it is because , well, are coded like this. Why did Google coded their Android version like this? Profit.

Apple, doesn't code ios like this cuz it is not their big revenue.

I am not sure Google or Apple are the hero in this story. Insinuating Apple does it out of the goodness of their hearts is naive.

Hated the new one. I am glad the old one was kind enough to take me back, even if we all knew it was temporary.

If enough people join in the same behaviour, Google will notice all the data gathering is losing value, and if the value is low enough the effort to gather it should be directed to something else. As a result new data is not gathered.
