Alan Rickman was the absolute perfect casting for Snape. Nobody else could have brought him to life so well and so true to the books.

Of the entire film cast I think everyone could have been replaced except for Snape, therefore it does make sense to be bold and try something different in his casting for the new show.

Indeed.

For many of us Harry Potter was a significant part of our childhoods. It's a great story with a satisfying ending. There was incredible excitement for each book, and the films weren't bad either.

The world is already miserable enough I'm not willing to expunge something that has brought me joy.

We absolutely should denounce JK Rowling and her abhorrent statements. I have no idea why people continue to give her a platform. She's one of the names on my filter list because I refuse to let her vile thoughts be given any of my attention.

I suspected that to be the case but left it somewhat open for the user to provide a source

Schools are useless shit anyway you learn fuck all apart from how to speak, read, and argue and think

But this is precisely a failure of education. We don't pay teachers well so there's no incentive for good ones to stay.

Class sizes are too large so individuals can easily fall behind unnoticed. Or the opposite, talented kids get bored and aren't challenged because the class can only move at the pace of the slowest individual.

Too much of education is steeped in tradition and no attempts are made to make the syllabus relevant to the real world.

Schooling isn't tailored to the individual so you're forced to learn the way your teacher dictates when an alternative approach may suit you better.

Is there any evidence to suggest micro plastics are causing issues? My conspiracy is microplastics are simply being pushed as the latest scapegoat for society's issues. It's an attempt to distract us and redirect us from rising up against the oligarchs who are destroying our society.

I think that's because instance admins are very hands on and take action to remove questionable content.

What the absolute fuck. That's insane if true.

With the nature of federation that then must cause issues for admin of other instances who end up federating that content.

I don't feel the need to block it entirely, what I'd prefer is a mechanism to demote their content so it ranks lower in the algorithm.

Similar to how Kagi search let's you re-prioritise different sites.

We do have alternatives to vaccines though:

You simply ban abortion and sex education which increases the birth rate and therefore it doesn't matter that a few babies die from preventable illnesses.

Blaze is basically a human repost bot. It's frustrating that a single individual with so many alts dominates the content on Lemmy.

I want to see Lemmy full of content and positive engagement but there also needs diversity in the people creating or curating that content.

I'm also pretty sure that graph is missing a lot of context. The red line is only showing the highest tax rate. I know very little about US tax but I know it is banded and that recently they reduced the higher rate and placed a higher burden on the middle classes. Therefore the increase in tax is likely the result of the middle class being forced to pay more, as opposed to the billionaires you're defending choosing to pay their taxes

What I suspect you're identifying is the loophole whereby wealthy individuals hold on to stocks to avoid taxable events. They then take out a loan with the stocks as collateral. The bank charges a small % because the risk to them is tiny. Thus it's far cheaper for the individual than simply paying the capital gains.

Why are you so ardent to defend taxing billionaires?
