And we know this is a fictional story because we know that in real life, terrorists are not sentient.

Don't you just hate it when actual patients tend to have some stupid skin all over their muscles

Sorry to hear about your print bed. I can't help you here but posting partly as a reminder to hear what people think should be done here to replace the print bed in case it ever happens to me too, and partly if there's any way to prevent this in the future.

Imagine getting to live in someone's basement for free, and they even give you free lotion every now and then.

Don’t worry. As a little experiment, I’ve found time and time again across a whole range of social media sites over years, that having a username that some people could perceive as aggressive will get you blocked / banned faster than you would believe. The people of Lemmy are not as different/open as they think they are!

You get banned for having the username "catty"? Seriously?

Unfortunately, when I open groups, I get called out that it should be merged with a sort-of-similar group, and then of course, empty groups are hard to start.

I mean is that a bad thing that groups get merged? Lemmy ain't reddit, and if you wanna follow niche (or even not-so-niche) hobbies here, it's usually better to have one group with 10 people in it rather than 5 groups with 2 people in it. If you wanna hang around in your 2-person group, no one's gonna ban you for doing so.

Having to take the effort to block all the politics in the first place mean 90% of people won’t do it and will get tied up with giving their asshole to each post rather than perhaps what they wanted to come here for in the first place. I believe that doesn’t create an overall diverse community.

If you joined an instance where 90% of the default communities offend you, maybe you should consider joining another instance?

Sentiment analysis is an old and established form of ai that would be useful here.

You'd use sentiment analysis how, exactly?

Yeah, sorry, I was being a bit catty with that reply. But algorithmically identifying something as "whinging circle jerk" is really difficult unless you wanna throw away the baby with the bathwater. I think someone elsewhere in the thread recommended creating a second account just for the hobby communities, if you wanna avoid the political memery. If the hobby communities feel quiet, well, you have the power to change that by posting something there.

Since according to you this is an easy coding issue that no one's bothered to implement, how would you from a technical standpoint implement those improvements?

Shit sorry, ~~the CIA told me not to point out~~I forgot that all content already automatically carries the political flag if it contradicts OP's political biases, and thus all we need to do is check for that and censor accordingly.

Not that I entirely disagree, but..

This could be easily fixed in the coding of Lemmy, but… it hasn’t.

I'm not sure how this could be fixed on the software level? Care to elaborate? Or even better, write up an issue + PR which proposes the "easy fix".
