I guess its really not in the big scheme. Idk just makes me nervous counting on so many people to store and manage my password in a smart way but I don't know a lot about Lemmy or activitypub so maybe that's all handles outside of instance admin control.

No you can't but you can also have a Linux box for significantly less than apple. Guess that's the price of ease of access though.

I just recently replaced the screen on an iPad idk the gen but they are all about the same in the screen replacement in my experience and the screen on my Pixel 7 Pro. Both were actually shockingly easy and imo didn't require special tools. Just need a heat gun, eyeglass screwdriver, etc. You can get the kits with all the "special tools" but really you could make it happen with a butter knife.

Remove yes but not transition it to a new instance. But this is one of the reasons I'm using a temp email and unique username and password for each account that isn't tied anywhere else. More things are easy to gather together knowledge wise compared to say reddit.

Few books I listened to after the expanse in no particular order.

Freedoms Fire by Bobby Adair Based in a future where earth has been basically enslaved by an alien race and forced to fight in their war.

Mech Wars by Scott Bartlet Far future where humanity wormholes to another galaxy to start over but the new system is run by a big Corp that does big Corp things.

The Messenger series by J.N. Chaney and Terry Magert Kind of childish but I actually really enjoyed it. I will say there is a shit pile of books imo and they aren't very long. Like 6-8hrs each if I remember correctly. But also far future dude gets his hands on a mech suit and goes traveling to get to to full strength as well as defeat enemies along the way.

Commonwealth Saga by Peter F Hamilton Humans basically have portal tech and can travel around using work holes. Been awhile since I listened and it didn admittedly take some strength to get into it at first but I really enjoyed the depth after I got used to it.

I never connected those dot but I 100% agree. Each group (ship, planet, station, etc) is like the instances and they update across each other constantly keeping there own local copy to take with them wherever they go. Also, imagine how massive the storage array is on say the Canterbury.

I'm pretty sure it's possible to completely beat the game without killing a single NPC as well.

I don't personally use it but pixelfed is an Instagram type of site. It's part of the fediverse as well.

Idk how I feel about easily migrating accounts from one instance to another or even having my password pass between instances on activypub. If it's easy to migrate an account then it would be possible for an admin of a rogue instance or even just a rogue admin of a perfectly fine instance to take your account. One thing I learned since joining is these accounts are kind of disposable. Personally I only have 2 on 2 different instances one of which is lemmy.world which is/has grown a whole bunch in the last few weeks. Personally idk how that kind of growth is sustainable on this kind of platform and I'm not shocked they are running into issues. When an instance explodes the way lemmy.world has they need to make an extreme investment into the server side of the instance to keep things running smoothly and that doesn't stay cheap or easy for very long.
