To keep people up to speed: The conditions put by FIFA on Vancouver were revealed a couple weeks ago it included:

No other major sporting events are permitted within a week of the start and end of the World Cup. Other large “cultural events,” like concerts, are also not allowed on the individual days before and after game days.

Not exactly sure what counts as a major sporting event under these terms.

There is a thing we could do to tackle the existence of billionaires in a world stricken by poverty...

I want a basic app that has no frills, is snappy, and does its job well. Lemmy fits that, and is no more or less than I need. I have a separate masto account.

Ah... I infer that with the daily economic and social chaos and confusion caused by this administration, many businesses had no idea if their own outlook was good or bad. The ones less affected would respond positively, right away so earlier data may have extrapolated from that.

Yeah I'm skeptical of any of these reports, I won't put any belief in it until we see the New York case culminate and evidence-based signs of widespread vote manipulation or glitches that coincidentally help Trump.

We're techy enough nerds to know there's another way to be free of billionaire influence while still keeping some resemblance of modern communication: self-hosting.

They found and caught some of the perpetrators of the gold heist last year at Pearson, some of whom were in the illegal arms trafficking market.

Spoiler: It wasn't Russell Oliver

Costs I estimate to be typical for 1 HDD, about 120USD which is about 170CAD

For 5 HDDs, I estimate about 485USD which is about 685CAD.

Ymmv, and these drives are if you just want bulk capacity at the lowest price over all else.

“As trains — many carrying hazardous material — have grown longer, crews should not be getting smaller,” said Eddie Hall, the president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen union. He praised the FRA for taking the step President Joe Biden promised. Hall said keeping two people in the cab of a locomotive is crucial now that railroads rely on longer trains that routinely stretch for miles.

Bonus points if there's a known onomatopoeia to describe the sound.

Before looking at the thumbnail, if you had to pick a random number between 1 and 100 that isn't a meme, what would it be?
